Product Description
If you're looking to plant an entire bed of plants or vegetables, but are worried that the soil you currently have isn't quite up to standard, our PAS 100 Wessex® Soil Improver Compost is a great addition to most basic soils to give it that nutrient boost it needs to give your plants the best chances of establishing strong roots.
You can also scatter this Wessex® Soil Improver Compost onto current plant beds and vegetable crops. The benefits of this peat-free Compost are that a little bit goes a long way, and is very friable, meaning it's really nice and easy to work with.
Due to the vigorous process this popular Compost goes through, it is high-quality and Soil Association-approved. This Compost has been made from recycled green waste and then composted down, finished to a 10mm particle size after it has been screened. This important process also eliminates unwanted pieces of debris.
We can also deliver our soils as loose, tipped loads, as opposed to being in bags. Please call our friendly team on 01202 874207 if you require this service.
Expertly Screened for Maximum Performance
PAS 100 Compost is meticulously screened to 10mm, making it perfect for a variety of gardening applications:
✔ Garden Borders & Flower Beds – Improve soil texture, boost moisture retention, and encourage vibrant blooms.
✔ Vegetable Patches – Create the ideal nutrient-rich foundation for strong, healthy crops.
✔ Tree & Shrub Planting – Strengthen root systems, enhance growth, and protect against harsh weather conditions.
How to Use for Optimal Results
To get the best results, spread the Compost across your garden by incorporating it into the upper soil layer and root zone. This will:
✅ Enrich the soil with essential nutrients for stronger, healthier plants.
✅ Improve drainage and aeration, preventing soil compaction.
✅ Encourage beneficial microbial activity, enhancing soil health naturally.
✅ Retain moisture efficiently, reducing the need for frequent watering.
Whether you’re reviving tired soil, preparing for a new planting season, or enhancing your garden’s long-term health, our Compost is the perfect eco-friendly solution to take your outdoor space to the next level.

What does BS3882 mean?
The British Standard 3882 certification for topsoil has been set out to ensure a consistently high-performance grade; a standard set out by the British Standards Institute. This standard is the revised version of 1994 originally set out.
BS3882 is measured on three components: Soil Structure and Classification, Free-from Contamination and Fertility. BS3882 topsoil suppliers are also able to provide results of the soil analysis which includes the origin of the soil, the contamination parameters and written confirmation that the soil complies with the standard BS3882:2007.
All of the Stone Zone & Landscaping Centre's soil contains BS3882 Soil for multi-purpose use, ideal for all gardening and landscaping applications.
What is Screened Soil?
All of the garden Soils that we supply directly from Stone Zone & Landscaping Centre undergo a screening process to specific particle sizes. Screening the soil is a very important process as it helps to remove larger pieces of debris from the soil. When you're working with soil in the garden with your hands, the last thing you want is to find large stones and sticks on your soil constantly, so this process saves you a lot of time sifting through the soil!
The Soil Screener, also known as a 'Scalping Screen,' is machinery that acts as a large sieve for recycled soils. The soil will go through a conveyor belt which has holes graded to different sizes. For this soil, the holes are as small as 10mm, so anything that measures more than 10mm should be separated from the soil, leaving mainly pure soil that then gets bagged up.
The Journey of our Eco-Friendly Soil
The process of our best-selling Wessex® Soil is environmentally friendly and sustainable. Our Topsoil is made from recycled soils that have come from local areas around Dorset as unwanted or unused waste collated by Gardeners and Landscapers.
This recycled soil then endures a screening process locally in Dorset which is what ensures the consistency of the soil, eliminating large stones, sticks and other bits of debris. After this, the soil will be tested and undergo a quality assurance process, checking various things like particle size, PH level and temperature. If it passes, it is then awarded the British Standard 3882 rating.
PAS 100 Green Compost then gets added to this BS3882 Soil at the same site. This compost has also been recycled as green waste from people's gardens and other areas that have had trees cut down. At a local site in Dorset, this recycled green waste is cut down and composted using a windrow turner. This compost is constantly turned for 12 weeks to distribute heat to regulate temperature, distribute moisture and improve oxygen content.
Once the PAS 100 Compost is ready, both the soil and the compost go through a large mixing machine which distributes each product evenly throughout. This entire process happens on the same site in Dorset, which is where our warehouse is based. Once the final product has been produced, large loads of this soil arrive at our warehouse, ready to sell in-store and online.
With the soil and peat-free compost being created entirely from recycled materials, with no virgin trees or marsh having been cut away for the production of our soils, it makes this a sustainably-sourced product. Also, with this topsoil being screened and mixed all on one site, it lowers the carbon emissions that might have been created if it were to be passed from site to site.
How Much Soil Do I Need? Quick Guide
Quick Guide - How Much Soil Do I Need?
The easiest way to work it out is to measure the length and width of your area, then decide how deep the soil or mulch needs to be.
Typical depths
-
New lawns / turf prep: 100–150mm
-
Planting beds: 200–300mm
-
Raised beds: around 300mm
-
Mulch / bark: 50–75mm
Quick guide
1 bulk bag (approx. 1m³) covers:
-
20m² at 50mm depth
-
10m² at 100mm depth
-
6–7m² at 150mm depth
We usually recommend ordering around 10% extra to allow for settling and levelling.
