Porcelain Paving, Answered

Is porcelain paving slippery when wet?

Outdoor porcelain is made with a textured, anti-slip surface, and our ranges carry slip ratings from R10 up to R12. That makes them a safe choice for patios, pathways and pool surrounds, staying grippy underfoot in typical British weather.

Does porcelain paving need sealing?

No. Porcelain is vitrified and non-porous, so spills and dirt sit on the surface rather than soaking in. A wash with warm water and a mild detergent, or a dedicated product like Azpects Easy Porcelain Cleaner, is all it needs.

What should I lay porcelain slabs on?

Porcelain should be laid on a full wet mortar bed over a properly compacted Type 1 sub-base. Because the slabs are non-porous, a priming slurry should be applied to the back of each slab to create a strong bond with the mortar.

What grout should I use with porcelain paving?

Azpects EASY Grout is formulated specifically for porcelain and ceramic paving and comes in Crema, Argent, Grafito and Blanco to suit different slab colours. It should not be used on natural stone, where it can cause permanent discolouration.

How thick should porcelain paving be?

20mm is the standard thickness for outdoor porcelain and is ideal for patios, paths and other pedestrian areas. If you are planning a driveway or an area taking vehicle weight, speak to our team first about the right build-up for the job.

Can I cut porcelain paving?

Yes, but porcelain is extremely hard, so you will need a wet saw or angle grinder fitted with a diamond blade designed for porcelain. Cut slowly and steadily to avoid chipping the edge, and always wear the appropriate safety gear.

Can I buy just one slab?

Yes. All of our porcelain paving can be purchased as individual slabs, and many ranges also come in mixed-size patio packs for a natural laying pattern. Call 01202 874207 if you would like help working out quantities.

Do you deliver porcelain paving?

Yes, simply enter your postcode when adding products to your basket for an accurate delivery price. You can also collect from our Ferndown, Bournemouth and Dorchester depots, or view the ranges on display at the Christchurch Showroom.
