Do I need topsoil or compost?
Topsoil provides the structure and body for lawns, levelling and building up beds, while compost supplies the nutrients and organic matter plants feed on. For planting, blending compost through topsoil gives the best of both.
What does screened topsoil mean?
The soil has been passed through a screen to remove stones, roots and debris, leaving a fine, consistent texture that rakes level easily and gives seeds and turf full contact with the soil.
How much soil do I need?

Can I improve heavy clay soil?
Yes, digging generous amounts of compost and organic matter through clay gradually opens its structure, improving drainage and making it far friendlier for roots. Repeat each season for a lasting change.

Spring and autumn are ideal. Spread a thin layer of screened soil over the lawn and work it in, which levels small hollows and feeds the grass without smothering it.
