Gravel Grids, Answered

How do gravel grids actually work?

The honeycomb cells confine the stone so it cannot migrate, rut or thin out under tyres and feet. The load spreads across the whole panel, giving a firm surface that behaves more like paving than loose gravel.

What stone should I fill the grids with?

An angular gravel of roughly 10 to 20mm locks into the cells best. Fill slightly proud of the grid so the plastic stays hidden, and the surface looks like a beautifully kept gravel drive.

What base preparation is needed?

A level, well-compacted Type 1 sub-base is the key to performance, deeper for driveways than paths. The grids then lay quickly on top, connecting together across the area.

How much does each grid cover?

Drive Grid sheets measure 1600 x 1200mm, covering 1.92 square metres each, and the Path Grid handy pack covers 1.38 square metres. Divide your area by the coverage and we will double-check quantities for you.

Can cars and caravans park on gridded gravel?

Yes, the Drive Grid is designed for domestic driveways and parking, while the Commercial Grid handles car parks, access roads and heavier applications. Tell us the traffic and we will point you to the right grid.

Do the grids help with drainage and planning rules?

Water drains freely through the filled cells, so surfaces stay puddle-free and generally satisfy sustainable drainage requirements for front garden driveways. The welded membrane keeps weeds out without blocking that drainage.
