What is the difference between resin-bound and resin-bonded?

Resin-bound surfacing mixes the stone through the resin before it is trowelled flat, creating a smooth, fully permeable surface. Resin-bonded scatters stone onto a layer of resin, giving a rougher texture that is not permeable. VUBA systems are resin-bound.

Is resin-bound surfacing permeable?

Yes, water drains straight through the surface into the base below, which helps prevent puddles and flooding. This permeability is why resin-bound driveways are generally compliant with sustainable drainage requirements.

What base does resin-bound gravel need?

It should be laid onto a sound, stable base such as existing concrete or tarmac in good condition. A failing base will telegraph cracks through any surface laid over it, so preparation is everything.

How long before I can walk or drive on it?

As a general guide you can walk on resin-bound surfacing after around 24 hours and drive on it after 48 to 72 hours, depending on temperature. Always follow the curing guidance supplied with your resin.

What is Easihold and when should I use it?

Easihold is a ready-to-use, water-based binder that locks existing loose stones from 4 to 20mm in place. It is ideal for tidying gravel beds, borders, pathways and tree surrounds without the cost of a full resin-bound installation, and it is safe for children and pets.

Will a resin surface yellow in the sun?

VUBA's UV-stable resin is engineered to resist yellowing and colour change, keeping the blend looking as intended year after year. It is one of the key quality differences between premium and budget resins.
