Fresh Turf
There is nothing like the real thing. Our fresh Wessex turf is locally grown, cut to order and delivered in rolls ready to transform bare soil into a living lawn in an afternoon.
Freshness is everything with turf, which is why we work on a cut-to-order basis: your rolls are lifted from the field as close to delivery as possible and should be laid the day they arrive, or within 24 hours in cooler weather.
Prepare your ground in advance with quality topsoil, order the number of rolls your area needs, and have the hose ready. Call 01202 874207 if you would like help calculating quantities.
Laying a Real Lawn, Answered
How quickly do I need to lay fresh turf?
Ideally the day it arrives, and within 24 hours at most in cooler weather. Rolled turf heats up and deteriorates quickly, so have your ground fully prepared before the delivery lands.
How should I prepare the ground?
Clear old grass and weeds, then level and lightly firm 100 to 150mm of quality topsoil. Rake to a fine, even finish so every roll makes full contact with the soil beneath.
How much should I water new turf?
Water thoroughly on the day of laying and then daily for the first couple of weeks, ideally morning or evening, until the roots have taken. Do not let the rolls dry out and shrink at the joints.
When can I mow a newly laid lawn?
Once the turf resists a gentle tug, usually two to three weeks after laying, give it a light first cut on a high blade setting. Lower the blades gradually over the following mows.
Can turf be laid all year round?
Most of the year, yes. Spring and autumn are ideal thanks to mild, damp conditions, while hard frost and summer drought are the times to avoid.
How do I know how much turf to order?
Measure your lawn area in square metres and add around 5% for cuts and shaping. Call us on 01202 874207 and the team will confirm the number of rolls your project needs.
