At the Stone Zone, we are always expanding our range of popular Porcelain Paving supplies - and now we have the Jurassic range which is just as good as the rest! Jurassic Porcelain Paving is non slip; rated at R11 commercial approval. It is high quality and long-lasting with a beautiful design that many of our customers will love.

The Jurassic Porcelain Paving range consists of a natural stone inspired design and five, stunning colours: Jurassic Scuro, Jurassic Grigio, Jurassic Quartzite and Jurassic Crema. These colours all include beige paving slabs, grey paving slabs and black paving slabs.

Inspired by our beautiful Jurassic Coast within Dorset, the design of these patio slabs have taken inspiration from the natural stone and rocks that would have been found in the Jurassic era; such as sedimentary stone like sandstone and metamorphic stone like marble. Instead of being one, block colour, these paving slabs contain subtle markings and colour shade variations that make them look both contemporary and natural.

We are proud of our outdoor Porcelain Paving tiles which have been developed with Quartz, Pure Clay and other minerals, that are then mixed together and blasted to 1400 degrees Celsius, resulting in patio slabs that are long-lasting and durable.

What is the Difference Between Porcelain and Sandstone Paving?
When choosing between Natural Stone Paving such as Sandstone Paving or Limestone Paving and Porcelain Paving, there are quite a few differences between the two which you may want to take into consideration.

For a start, Porcelain Paving has been manufactured, with the paving slab designs having been created from scratch, in order to create a completely unique pattern. As mentioned above, Porcelain tiles consist of a mixture of premium minerals such as clay and quartz, for a fantastic finish to the look of the end product.

On top of beautiful looks, Porcelain paving has been fired in a kiln at 1400C, undergoing an immense amount of pressure. This process ensures maximum durability and strength, so your paving slabs will last a long time, won't get easily broken in the installation process, and can withstand heavy foot traffic.

In contrast to this, Sandstone and Limestone Paving is a natural stone, deriving from stone that was around millions of years ago, which can be found in quarries in India. Natural qualities of these pavers make for a really nice, rustic-looking paving patio, with its own patterns that have formed over years and years. This look is great for those with period properties or a garden that is looking for a rustic style.

The durability of natural stone paving, however, isn't quite as good as Porcelain Paving. Where these natural stones have been cut from larger stones, they are naturally more brittle, therefore more likely to crack in the installation process, and generally not as 'hard' as porcelain. They are also not UV stable like porcelain, so the colour will fade over time.

Lastly, the other difference between the two paving stones, is the maintenance that's involved. Porcelain Paving requires priming in the installation process, but will never require sealing. In fact, the only up-keep involved would be sweeping and jet washing as and when needed. With Sandstone or Limestone, however, this will need regularly sealing to try and keep the colour.

Porcelain Paving Garden Ideas

Porcelain Paving Garden Ideas

Are you wondering why Porcelain Paving is the best choice for your garden? We have noticed a growing number of customers who enjoy having a patio in their garden where they can design a sitting or outdoor dining area. These paving stones are an excellent choice for an al fresco dining and entertaining area as they are not easily damaged, and therefore you can enjoy them all year round.

If you are looking to create something more understated and unique, these paving stones can also be used to create stepping stones that wind around your garden or across your natural lawn, creating a cottage-like feel. One of the biggest benefits of using individual stepping stones is that you can easily colour-coordinate or match with your patio to create a more cohesive look.

We think Porcelain Paving is becoming the favourite garden feature, often chosen due to its durability and stability. These Paving slabs are a great option if you want a garden surface that will stand the test of time, even in areas with heavy foot traffic. They can resist and cope with extreme weather and will look shiny and new for many years to come.

To conclude, Porcelain Paving is very easy to maintain and take care of, making it ideal for those who want a nice garden but don't want to spend time constantly working on it. With that being said, we do think it's best practice to go around the paved area every once in a while giving it a good sweep and wiping off any dirt, fallen twigs, and so on. If you want to take that a step further, jet washing the area a few times a year wouldn't hurt either.

What is the Difference Between Porcelain and Sandstone?

Porcelain is a manufactured material designed to replicate the aesthetic of natural stone while delivering superior durability and minimal maintenance. Its production involves vitrification, where pure clays and minerals like quartz are heated to temperatures exceeding 1200 degrees Celsius. The result is an exceptionally strong, non-porous slab that resists scratches, stains, mould, moss and frost, retains its texture and colour without sealing, and provides excellent grip in wet conditions thanks to its R11 skid rating. Its refined, sleek appearance works well in contemporary garden designs.

Sandstone, a natural material sourced from quarries (primarily in India), exudes a traditional, rustic charm. Its porous nature allows rainwater absorption, aiding natural drainage, and over time it develops a weathered patina that appeals to those who enjoy a vintage aesthetic. Regular sealing is needed to preserve its colours and protect against weathering; without sealing, its hues gradually fade to softer, lighter tones.

Choosing the Right Option

Opt for Porcelain Paving for a modern, sleek look with minimal maintenance and long-term durability. Choose Sandstone Paving for a traditional, natural vibe with environmental benefits and a rustic charm. Both materials bring unique advantages, allowing you to tailor your choice to your lifestyle and outdoor needs.

What Do I Need to Lay Porcelain?

You'll also need a jointing compound, such as EasyJoint, to fill the gaps between your Porcelain Slabs. We'd also recommend adding Porcelain Primer to the back of the slabs to ensure it stays put for years!

How Many Square Metres Shall I Buy?

If you times the Width by the Length of your new patio, you'll get the Square Metres needed. We'd always recommend adding 10% for wastage and cuts.
