Real or Artificial? Your Lawn Questions Answered

Should I choose fresh turf or artificial grass?

Fresh turf gives you a living lawn at a lower upfront cost, in exchange for mowing, watering and feeding. Artificial grass costs more initially but stays green all year with virtually no maintenance, making it ideal for busy households, shaded gardens and areas where real grass struggles.

How do I work out how much artificial grass I need?

Our artificial grass is sold from 2m and 4m width rolls, with selected ranges also available in 5m. Measure the width and length of your area, choose the roll width that minimises waste, then enter the number of metres of length you need. Our team is happy to check your measurements.

Is artificial grass safe for pets and children?

Yes. All of our artificial ranges are pet and child friendly, with soft, splinter-free fibres and pre-punched drainage so rain and pet mess rinse straight through. Goliath and the Easigrass ranges are particularly popular with dog owners.

Does artificial grass need a sand infill?

No. Our ranges are designed to stand up without a sand infill, and the Easigrass collection features a built-in dead grass thatch layer that adds realism and support. That means less maintenance and a cleaner finish.

What goes underneath artificial grass?

A typical build-up is a compacted Type 1 sub-base topped with a fine layer of sharp sand, with a weed membrane to stop growth from below. This creates a firm, free-draining base that keeps the lawn flat and healthy-looking for years.

How long does artificial grass last?

With a proper base and normal garden use, quality artificial grass lasts well over a decade. Our ranges carry 10-year UV protection guarantees, so the colour will not fade or yellow prematurely in sunlight.

When is the best time to lay fresh turf?

Turf can be laid for most of the year, but spring and autumn are ideal because the mild, damp conditions help it root quickly. Avoid laying during hard frost or drought, and keep new turf well watered for the first few weeks.

Do you deliver turf and artificial grass?

Yes, enter your postcode at the basket for an accurate delivery price. Fresh turf is cut to order for maximum freshness, and you can also collect from our Ferndown, Bournemouth, Dorchester and Christchurch depots.
