What Is Porcelain Cladding?
Porcelain cladding also referred to as porcelain tiles, embodies a ceramic tile variant created from a specialized clay exposed to exceptionally high temperatures during the firing process. This technique produces a dense, sturdy, and low-porosity material, rendering it well-suited for cladding purposes. Adaptable for both external and internal uses, porcelain tiles are available in various sizes, colours, and finishes, catering to a diverse array of design requirements.
Porcelain Cladding Properties
Durability
Celebrated for its exceptional durability, porcelain cladding undergoes a high-temperature firing process, resulting in a dense and non-porous material. This quality makes it resistant to moisture, stains, and impacts, enabling it to withstand harsh weather conditions. As a result, it proves to be a versatile option for both indoor and outdoor applications.
Low Maintenance
Porcelain cladding requires minimal maintenance thanks to its non-porous surface, which prevents liquid absorption and reduces the risk of staining. Routine cleaning with water and mild detergents is typically sufficient to preserve its appearance over time.
Aesthetic Versatility
Boasting a diverse array of colours, patterns, and finishes, porcelain tiles provide unparalleled aesthetic versatility. Whether aiming for a sleek, modern ambience or a more traditional allure, porcelain cladding offers options that align with your unique design preferences.
Size Options
Porcelain cladding comes in various sizes, including large-format tiles. This range allows for the creation of seamless and visually striking surfaces with fewer grout lines, providing flexibility in design applications.
Fire Resistance
Inherently fire-resistant, porcelain stands as a secure choice for cladding applications in buildings, ensuring safety and reliability in diverse architectural contexts.
Advantages of Porcelain Cladding
Aesthetics
Porcelain cladding possesses the transformative ability to redefine the visual allure of a building. By mimicking the textures of natural stone, wood, metal, and other materials, it opens up a broad spectrum of design possibilities. Particularly favoured in contemporary architecture, its sleek and modern appearance imparts a distinctive touch to structures.
Weather Resistant
Resisting moisture, UV rays, and temperature fluctuations, porcelain cladding proves to be an excellent choice for both exterior and interior applications. Its capacity to endure diverse weather conditions ensures prolonged aesthetic and structural integrity.
Longevity
The enduring quality of porcelain cladding, stemming from its durability and low-maintenance characteristics, contributes to an extended lifespan. This ensures that the cladding maintains its original appearance and structural integrity over the years.
Sustainability
Many porcelain cladding products are crafted using environmentally friendly processes and materials. With a lengthy lifespan and recyclable properties, it stands as an environmentally conscious choice, aligning with sustainable design principles.
Versatility
Porcelain cladding's adaptability extends across various architectural applications, including facades, wall cladding, flooring, countertops, and more. Its versatility makes it a popular choice for designers and architects seeking flexible and functional solutions.

Porcelain Cladding for your Home & Garden
Whether you own a modern residence or aim to enhance its contemporary allure, the inclusion of Sienna™ Quartz Crema can significantly enhance the aesthetic appeal of your home. Many expansive properties often exhibit unembellished rendered walls in neutral tones like cream, off-white, or beige. To counteract a monotonous appearance, cladding offers a versatile solution, injecting diversity into your living space.
If you're hesitant about altering the front facade, consider enhancing the rear or the side facing your garden. Applying cladding to these surfaces can create a modern and cohesive look. Additionally, contemplating matching paving in a similar colour can further enhance the overall aesthetic.
Unused walls within your garden, such as a garage wall, serve as an ideal canvas for cladding. Transforming these plain surfaces can instantly breathe life into the space, introducing a modern touch to your garden that harmonizes with the surrounding elements.
For those considering a feature wall with cladding, think about elevating the surrounding area with decorative stones. Our diverse range, featuring various colours, allows you to choose stones that complement the cladding. Furthermore, our offering of chippings and pebbles in different sizes facilitates easy colour coordination and decoration. The silver-grey hue of the cladding also pairs seamlessly with our natural stone paving and porcelain paving options.
How to Install Porcelain Cladding
While our general recommendation leans towards hiring professionals for landscaping or cladding projects, these porcelain cladding panel pieces are relatively lightweight. If you're an experienced DIY enthusiast, installing them on a plain and secure wall is a manageable task.
To start, accurately measure the installation spot for your porcelain cladding. You can then visit our website, and depots, or contact us by phone to purchase the necessary amount. We offer a return service for unused cladding pieces within 28 days of purchase, provided they remain in resalable condition.
Prepare the wall by sanding the area to ensure a clean surface free of flaky pieces or loose debris. Lay out the cladding segments to plan their arrangement on the wall, considering the thickness range of 7mm to 11mm for a natural and rustic appearance.
In cases where certain tile parts may overhang, a high-quality tile cutter is necessary to trim any excess pieces. It's important to note that we cannot refund these trimmed pieces. Use tile adhesive and a trowel, available in our depots, to apply the adhesive to the wall. Apply the cladding pieces at a 45-degree angle to ensure a thick adhesive layer on the wall.
Given that the cladding tiles are not perfect rectangles, the bottom half is slightly staggered to create the illusion of natural joints. Begin laying the tiles from one corner, adhering to the floor blueprint. The cladding is designed to be butt-jointed, eliminating the need for adhesive or grout between joints. Press each piece firmly onto the wall to ensure a secure bond.
Allow the wall and cladding to rest for a few hours before checking the progress. Keep the area as dry as possible for 24 hours to facilitate complete drying.

What is the Difference Between Porcelain and Sandstone?
When selecting paving materials for your outdoor spaces, Porcelain and Sandstone offer distinct qualities suited to different preferences and requirements.
Porcelain Paving
Porcelain is a manufactured material designed to replicate the aesthetic of natural stone while delivering superior durability and minimal maintenance. Its production involves vitrification, where pure clays and minerals like quartz are heated to temperatures exceeding 1200°C. This process results in:
Durability: Porcelain slabs are exceptionally strong, resisting scratches, stains, and wear over time.
Non-Porous Surface: Being waterproof and resistant to mold, moss, and frost makes Porcelain ideal for wet climates or areas around pools.
Minimal Maintenance: Unlike natural stone, Porcelain retains its texture and color without sealing, requiring only basic cleaning.
Safety: With an R11 skid rating, Porcelain provides excellent grip even in wet conditions, ensuring safety in high-traffic or family-friendly areas.
Modern Aesthetic: Its refined, sleek appearance works well in contemporary garden designs.
Sandstone Paving
Sandstone, a natural material sourced from quarries (primarily in India), exudes a traditional, rustic charm. Its distinctive riven texture and natural variations make it a popular choice for homeowners seeking a timeless appeal.
Eco-Friendly: Sandstone’s porous nature allows rainwater absorption, aiding in natural drainage and potentially reducing flood risk.
Natural Aging: Over time, Sandstone develops a weathered patina, appealing to those who enjoy a vintage or aged aesthetic.
Maintenance: Regular sealing is needed to preserve its colors and protect against weathering. Without sealing, its hues gradually fade to softer, lighter tones.
Traditional Look: Sandstone’s textured finish and natural variations add warmth and character to outdoor spaces.
Comparative Overview
