VubaMac; the world’s most flood-resistant paving!

Are you looking to renovate your driveway? Or maybe you’re a landscaper seeking various driveway solutions for your clients?

Either way, we’re sure you’ll like our VubaMac System, which is a superior alternative to traditional bases such as asphalt and concrete.

What is VubaMac?

The VubaMac System is a base solution that you easily make up on-site with a resin mixer. It consists of a renewable binding agent, 6 to 10mm aggregates and 1 to 5mm aggregates, also known as MacMix.

You will need to purchase the Structural Reinforcement Mesh (SRM) alongside your VubaMac System. This clever mesh adds strength and support to your base, with similar materials being used on motorways to ensure strength and prevent cracking.

Once these elements have been mixed in the correct quantities, it is ready to start applying. Once it has cured, you will have a fully permeable, highly durable base that is ready for your chosen resin bound surfacing blend.

VubaMac System includes:

  • SRM - Structural Reinforcement Mesh (buy separately)
  • 1 x 4.5kg VubaMac Resin Binder
  • 1 x 12.5kg MacMix
  • 4 x 25kg Aggregates (6 to 10mm)

How does VubaMac work?

As shown in the diagram, the made-up VubaMac base gets sandwiched between 2 layers of SRM, which then chemically bonds with your chosen resin bound aggregate blend to make a long-lasting, attractive drive or pathway solution.

Its permeability is second to none, being referred to as 'the most flood-resistant paving in the world' by the Flood Innovation Centre. For this reason, you will not need to worry during times of heavy or persistent rainfall, as the water quickly and easily drains through both the resin bound aggregates and the VubaMac base.

Why is VubaMac better than traditional bases?

  • Super strength: as tested under controlled conditions, VubaMac outperformed asphalt on every strength test performed. The conclusion? VubaMac is 57% stronger than asphalt.
  • Saves on commercial digging: when considering large commercial sites, VubaMac can be used on almost every surface, provided the correct aggregates have been laid beforehand. This significantly reduces the need for digging, saving 1.75 million kilograms of excavated earth compared to using concrete.
  • Permeable and fully SuDS compliant: described as 'the only fully SuDS-compliant paving from earth to top surface' by the Association of SuDS Authorities
  • Environmentally friendly: does not emit CO2 like concrete, or the VOC emissions that come from asphalt, and the aggregates are recycled from railway tracks.
  • Time-effective: your entire project can be completed in one day, provided you have the right number of installers and the correct materials and equipment.
  • 25 year guarantee: a worry-free, long-lasting base perfect for commercial applications!

What tools do I need to lay VubaMac?

  • Resin bound mixer
  • Spazzle or trowel
  • Stanley knife
  • Heavy duty gloves
  • Wheelbarrow
  • Wacker plate

How to install VubaMac

VubaMac, along with all of VUBA's products, should always be installed by a professional. At the Stone Zone, we hold training sessions at our depots which are run by VUBA. Once your landscaper has completed this theory-based and practical training day, they will come away with a certification meaning they are certified VUBA installers, and you will be eligible for the 25 year guarantee.

Take a look at our basic guide to the steps for installing VubaMac.

  1. Your soil will not need digging up, just raking so it is level, with any debris taken away
  2. Add geo-textile membrane to prevent weeds coming through
  3. Add a base aggregate such as MOT Type 1 at a depth of around 50mm, and compact down with a wacker plate
  4. Roll out a layer of SRM onto your compacted aggregate
  5. You can now install your VubaMac base at the appropriate depth, depending on traffic
  6. Add a final layer of SRM, ready for your chosen resin bound aggregate blend
  7. You are now ready to install your resin bound surface, which will chemically bond with your VubaMac base
