A widespread use for 40mm shingles is to create a colourful, decorative garden feature, either in a front garden or a back garden. It makes for a very low-maintenance area that looks inviting to your guests. Why not use Shingle within your garden pond? Create your very own DIY rockery feature with these colourful brown garden stones by scattering them around and inside your pond! The colours can be appreciated more when they're wet so makes for a perfect feature. Gardeners have also used these shingle stones as mulch for plants. They can aid moisture retention in the summer, preventing your soil from drying out. 40mm Shingle can also provide insulation from temperature fluctuation; so even in the winter, your plants can be protected! Soakaways are a very important addition to your garden if you're in an area that is prone to heavy rain, and if your garden often has standing water on it when it rains. Some gardens opt for hard landscaping, such as Paving areas in their garden, unless the paving is permeable, it can sometimes lead to poor drainage and potentially garden floods. If you create a border around your paving, however, and lay the paving at a very slight angle, this can irradicate the risk of standing water and flooding in your garden, by providing an area that helps the slow collection of rainwater. There's nothing more relaxing than listening to the calming sounds of running water; so why not add your very own water feature into your garden? We have lots of ideas on how you can create your very own water feature, whether it's more of a natural pond or a wow-factor water feature. Create an understated, upcycled pond; if you have an unwanted plastic laundry basket lying around, or even a large, ceramic pot, simply add some fresh water, or let the rain collect, to create your own little pond. You will need to line anything that has holes with a tight, geo fabric to ensure the water remains contained. You will also need to ensure the water is clean. If you want something more extensive and more natural-looking, you could always dig a shallow hole in your garden, and add a 40mm Shingle to create your own rockery. Paired with large rocks, this will transform any pond into a natural paradise that might attract all kinds of wildlife. There's a huge range of plants you can buy that will either grow underwater or sit on top of your pond that will really take it to the next level! Create a water feature with running water; for a contemporary water feature that has soothing, running water, use a solar-powered pump within your pond. These can be bought at different intensities so you can opt for calming and quiet or louder and more powerful. If you're looking to create a water feature that really makes a statement, consider adding a solar-powered fountain to your water feature or pond! It could be as simple as upcycling an old trough or metal bath and incorporating a fountain, with some decorative stones around the edges. Water for the Wildlife; Maybe you just want a simple, contained pot of water filled with beautiful Chippings or Rocks that the birds can take a bath in or use to get a drink in the Summer. Simply upcycle an old, metal or plastic planter or even a large garden or kitchen pot for a small, yet effective bird bath where you can enjoy watching small birds washing themselves or taking a drink in the Summer. PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their actual colour.
