Wessex® Eco Coffee Soil
The Stone Zone is very proud to introduce a new, environmentally-friendly, high-quality soil that is completely new and unique to the market!
Guaranteed to stimulate plant growth, our Wessex Eco Coffee Soil consists of 100% recycled Soil tested to BS3882 Standard, thoughtfully blended with locally sourced, recycled Coffee grounds and PAS 100 Organic Compost that is completely peat-free.
By adding used coffee grounds to our already popular British Standard Soil, we are adding nitrogen to the soil blend, which is key in the growth stage of certain plants. It's important to note that the addition of nitrogen to our Soil will turn the soil acidic, where the plant can secrete an acidic H+ into the soil solution.
We also have nourishing garden soils, such as the Ericaceous Soil and Lawn & Turf Seeding Soil.

Our Eco-Friendly Coffee Soil
You might be wondering what made us think to add used coffee grounds to our Soil; in 2021, our MD and soil-lover decided that he wanted to recycle our used coffee grounds that would otherwise just get thrown away. These come from the coffee machine that we have for customers, so as you can imagine, a large amount of used coffee grounds are accumulated.
With our knowledge of soils and the fact that coffee is a natural product that is naturally high in nitrogen, the idea was born that we could add coffee to our soil, and create a nitrogen-rich soil that has a balanced acidity to really stimulate growth, as well as finding a use for our used coffee grounds.
To experiment with our new Wessex Eco Coffee Soil, we had staff members add this soil to top up their vegetable beds and the results they saw were amazing! By mixing it with their Wessex BS3882 Soil, they really saw an improvement in both the growth rate of their vegetables as well as the quality of their harvest!
Our Sustainable Soil Range
At the Stone Zone, we are conscious of the impact we all have on the environment. For that reason, we are very proud to explain how our Soil range is sustainable; creating a minimal carbon footprint and upcycling materials without using any virgin green products.
Our best-selling, Wessex BS3882 is the base to all of our soils; this soil is made up of recycled soils that come from garden and landscaping projects where people have had soil removed from their garden.
This soil then goes through a large screener with is graded to 10mm, which ensures there are no large, unwanted objects in the soil such as sticks and stones.
Once the soil is screened and tested to receive the British Standard certificate, our Green PAS 100 Compost is then added to the soil.
This peat-free compost that gets added is also made up of recycled green waste, which has been mulches down and turned into compost at the same site that the soil is produced. When its ready, it gets added to our BS3882 soil, where the content will be a minimum of 10% organic compost.
Once this process is completed in Dorset, the travel to get the bags of soil to our warehouse is minimal, as our warehouse is located in Dorset too. This eliminates lots of travel and therefore means the emissions are much less than the average soil.
Within this range, you will also find Dutch Tree Sand, Farmyard Manure and 10mm Top Dressing.
Please also keep in mind that there is a range of Topsoils within the Wessex® Soils collection. This includes Blended 10mm Loam Topsoil, Fruit & Veg Topsoil, and Borders & Beds Topsoil.
Finally, if you are looking for top-quality compost, we cater to that as well with our Peat Free Multi-Purpose Compost and the Soil Improver Compost.
What is PAS 100 Compost?
Publicly Available Specification is a nationally recognised compost quality standard within the organics recycling sector.
To ensure compost is of a high quality, PAS is set by the British Standards Institution which requires producers to establish a top-quality production policy.
The reason behind this specification is to recognise non-hazardous waste that contains biodegradable materials only, making it safe to use in both domestic and commercial settings.
What does BS3882 mean?
The British Standard 3882 certification for topsoil has been set out to ensure a consistently high performance grade; a standard set out by the British Standards Institute. This standard is the revised version of the 1994 originally set out.
BS3882 is measured on three components: Soil Structure and Classification, Free-from Contamination and Fertility. BS3882 topsoil suppliers are also able to provide results of the soil analysis which includes the origin of the soil, the contamination parameters and written confirmation that the soil complies with the standard BS3882:2007.
All of the Stone Zone & Landscaping Centre's soil contains BS3882 Soil for multi-purpose use, ideal for all gardening and landscaping applications.
