Wessex® 10mm Top Dressing
One of our best-selling products, especially during turfing season, is our Wessex® Top Dressing. Consisting of a 70/30 mix of sand and Wessex BS3882 Soil, this has been screened to 10mm for consistency and to prevent the presence of unwanted, large debris.
The traditional mixture of Sand and Soil is what makes this popular product great for growing grass seed as well as topping off your already-laid turf. The high quality, BS3882 Soil will provide the best nutrients for the roots to thrive, and the mixture of sand throughout the dressing will provide moisture retention in wet seasons and manage even drainage.
Within this range, you will also find Dutch Tree Sand and Farmyard Manure.
Wessex® 10mm Top Dressing for Turfing Season
We tend to supply our Turf Dressing to both commercial and domestic customers, due to its versatility and its great-value price.
If you're using Wessex Top Dressing on gardens that already have grass laid, our Top Dressing helps to build up the quality of Soil over time, stimulating the grass to produce new shoots on top of what is already there. This results in denser grass cover which makes your garden look amazing and luscious. It also helps combat the onset of weed and moss infestation.
The additional benefit of sandy soils is that they will be able to retain moisture better so the grass will be more resistant to drought; perfect if you're laying your grass seed in Spring, before the hot weather hits.
The overall drainage of the soil will also be better; improving root development in rainy months if you were to lay grass seed in Autumn. This will also help even out any lumps and bumps that are present on an uneven area of grass, filling in any small hollows that may develop.
Please also remember that there is a range of Topsoils within the Wessex® Soils collection. This includes Blended 10mm Loam Topsoil, Fruit & Veg Topsoil, and Borders & Beds Topsoil.
We also have nourishing garden soils, such as the Ericaceous Soil and Lawn & Turf Seeding Soil.
Finally, if you are looking for top-quality compost, we cater to that as well with our Peat Free Multi-Purpose Compost and the Soil Improver Compost.

What is PAS 100 Compost?
Publicly Available Specification is a widely recognised compost quality standard within the organics recycling sector.
To ensure a high standard of compost, PAS is set by the British Standards Institution that requires producers to establish a top-quality production policy.
This product status is given in recognition of non-hazardous waste that contains biodegradable materials only, making it safe to use in both domestic and commercial settings.
What does BS3882 mean?
The British Standard 3882 certification for topsoil has been set out to ensure a consistently high performance grade; a standard set out by the British Standards Institute. This standard is the revised version of the 1994 originally set out.
BS3882 is measured with three different elements in mind: Soil Structure and Classification, Free-from Contamination and Fertility. BS3882 topsoil suppliers are also able to provide results of the soil analysis which includes the origin of the soil, the contamination parameters and written confirmation that the soil complies with the standard BS3882:2007.
All of the Stone Zone & Landscaping Centre's soil contains BS3882 Soil for multi-purpose use, ideal for all gardening and landscaping applications.
