What is PAS 100 Compost?
Publicly Available Specification is a widely recognised compost quality standard within the organics recycling sector.
To ensure a high standard of compost, PAS is set by the British Standards Institution which requires producers to establish a top-quality production policy.
This product status is given in recognition of non-hazardous waste that contains biodegradable materials only, making it safe to use in both domestic and commercial settings.
What does BS3882 mean?
The British Standard 3882 certification for topsoil, developed by the British Standards Institute, ensures a consistently high-performance grade for landscaping and gardening projects. This standard, revised from its original 1994 version, establishes strict criteria for topsoil quality.
BS3882 assesses soil on three primary criteria: Soil Structure and Classification, Contamination-Free Assurance, and Fertility Levels. Suppliers providing BS3882-compliant topsoil must offer detailed soil analysis results, including soil origin, contamination limits, and confirmation that it meets BS3882:2007 standards.
At Stone Zone & Landscaping Centre, all multi-purpose topsoil options meet BS3882 certification, making them excellent choices for various gardening and landscaping applications. Topsoil is available in bulk bags containing approximately 850kg, ideal for large projects.

What is Screened Soil?
At Stone Zone & Landscaping Centre, all the soils we sell are carefully screened to different grades to ensure the highest quality. Screening is an essential step in preparing the soil for use, as it removes larger debris like stones and sticks that can interfere with planting. By separating out these larger pieces, we save you time and effort in preparing the soil for your garden.
Our screening process uses a machine known as a 'Scalping Screen,' which acts like a large sieve for recycled soils. The soil is fed through a conveyor belt with holes sized to different specifications. For our 8mm screened soil, the mesh has 8mm holes, ensuring that any material larger than 8mm is removed, leaving behind clean, fine soil that’s ready for use and then bagged for sale.
