Pea Gravel 20mm
Mostly consisting of varying shades of brown, such as golden and tan, Pea Gravel in 20mm is one of our most loved quartzite gravel stones. The range we stock here in Stone Zone is in a rounder shape, developed from high-quality, gleaming stones. Our Pea Gravel is available in 3 different sizes: 10mm, 14mm and 20mm, so you have a range of sizes to choose from depending on where you want to use them.
Pea Gravel is not very dissimilar to the well-known 'Pea Shingle' and 'Golden Gravel', all of which are available at Stone Zone as well. But in comparison to those 2 shingles, the Pea Gravel is considered more luxurious as it’s derived from more precious stones. Due to this the Pea Gravel, which is derived from Quartzite, is considered to be the more luxurious option and is often used as a garden feature, borders or surrounding a water feature.
As these stones are larger, they are safe and suitable for laying pathways and driveways. But, as we have mentioned before, these stones are of a rounder shape, which is not ideal for driveways. Ideally, we would suggest that you purchase stones that are more angular as they are better at locking together, namely Shingle and Gravel.

Pea Gravel for a Pond or Water Feature
These decorative stones are an excellent way to decorate the area around a water feature to make it more of a feature area. This will be good regardless of whether the water feature is man-made or natural, these stones will suit both. The range of colours within these stones is even more vibrant and deep when they are wet. The colours become more defined and the stones seem to have a glossy finish, making them even more aesthetically pleasing.
If you already have or want to have a pond in your garden, the pea gravel is a great choice to decorate its border with, or even if you want to lay them in the pond to create dimensions, these stones are ideal. How to Lay Pea Gravel in Your Garden
If you want to start a DIY project that's great for beginners, then a great chance to gain more experience would be to lay decorative stones around your garden. At Stone Zone, we take pride in stocking the best quality decorative stones and the corresponding equipment to install them as easily as possible. Take a look through our handy little guide to get you started on your way to adding the Pea Gravel to your garden.
When laying any type of decorative stone in your garden, the first step is to install a stable base. To do this we suggest you use Limestone Type 1, also referred to as MOT Type 1, which is a graded, 40mm Limestone. Please do not skip this step, it is essential for decorative stones and is even more imperative for driveways and pathways.
Make sure to measure out the area you will be laying the Pea Gravel. Once you know how much area needs to be covered, you will be able to use our Quantity Calculator that will work out how much space Pea Gravel and base layer you will need.
We also think that it's the best practice to use Weed Fabric. This will provide you with extra security against weeds and ensure that they won't be sprouting out in between the stones and leave your garden looking shiny and new. The fabrics come in a multitude of sizes so you will be able to pick one that will fit your garden.
The only upkeeping that is needed on your end is to top the stones up every year to ensure that they are as level as they can be.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their true colour.
