Pea Gravel 10mm
Our Pea Gravel is a beautiful quartzite gravel stone, predominantly golden and tan brown in color, with a natural, glistening quality that makes it a popular choice for decorative gardens. This premium range features rounded stones made from high-quality quartzite, adding elegance to any outdoor space.
Pea Gravel is similar in appearance to traditional 'Pea Shingle' and 'Golden Gravel,' but its quartzite composition gives it a refined, premium appeal. This makes it a favorite for decorative garden borders, water features, and other ornamental uses.
Thanks to its small size, Pea Gravel is also suitable for pathways and driveways. However, as the stones are rounded rather than angular, they don’t interlock as firmly as other gravels or shingle, so we recommend it primarily for decorative applications.
Our Pea Gravel is available in three convenient sizes—10mm, 14mm, and 20mm—to suit a variety of landscaping needs.

Pea Gravel for Your Garden
Pea Gravel, with its mix of medium brown tones accented by occasional hints of red and white, is an ideal decorative feature for traditional red-brick homes. It creates a vibrant and appealing border, perfect for enhancing curb appeal at both the front and back of your home.
Using decorative garden gravel like Pea Gravel can instantly elevate the look of your property and even boost its value. Many homeowners choose Pea Gravel to border garden paving in similar shades, adding a polished finishing touch. It’s also popular for creating small focal areas within gardens, either as a standalone feature or as a base for planting flowers, offering a charming, low-maintenance statement piece.
Pea Gravel for a Pond or Water Feature
This smooth, quartzite Pea Gravel is a stunning choice for any water feature, whether it’s a crafted fountain or a natural pond. When wet, the gravel’s colors become richer, with deepened browns and occasional reds that stand out beautifully.
Pea Gravel is also ideal for pond surrounds and is entirely fish-safe, making it a great option for adding directly into the pond. For a natural-looking pond, using decorative stones like Pea Gravel enhances its aesthetic, helping it blend seamlessly with the landscape while adding texture and visual appeal.
How to Lay Pea Gravel in Your Garden
Adding Pea Gravel to your garden is a simple and rewarding task for any intermediate DIYer or gardener. As a top supplier of decorative stones, we provide all the essentials to make the job effortless! Check out our easy guide below for helpful tips when installing Pea Gravel as a decorative feature in your garden.
If you're planning to use Pea Gravel for a garden border or feature, it's a good idea to create a stable base. We recommend using Limestone Type 1 (also known as MOT Type 1), a graded 40mm Limestone, which is especially useful for driveways and pathways. While it's not strictly necessary for decorative features, it adds durability.
Start by measuring the area where you’d like to lay your Pea Gravel. Once you have your measurements, use our Quantity Calculator to determine how much base layer and Pea Gravel you'll need.
For garden borders or features, we suggest using Weed Fabric. This will prevent weeds from growing through, keeping your garden looking pristine for years. Our Weed Fabric comes in various sizes to suit your needs.
Once your Pea Gravel is laid, the only maintenance required is a yearly top-up to keep it looking fresh and beautiful.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their true colour.
How to Lay Pea Gravel in Your Garden
Maintaining 10mm Pea Gravel is straightforward and ensures that it remains a beautiful, functional addition to your garden or landscaping. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to maintain it:
Regular Cleaning
Rake or Sweep: Over time, dirt, leaves, and debris may settle on the surface. Rake or sweep the Pea Gravel occasionally to keep it looking tidy.
Power Wash: If you have a lot of dirt buildup, you can use a pressure washer to clean the gravel, but be careful not to displace the stones. Power washing is most effective when the gravel is dry.
Weed Control
Weed Fabric: If you laid down weed fabric underneath the gravel, it should reduce the chances of weeds growing. However, some weeds may still manage to push through. Regularly check for weeds and remove them by hand.
Weed Killer: If manual removal isn’t enough, you can apply an environmentally friendly weed killer or vinegar solution between the stones, but avoid over-saturating the gravel.
Topping Up the Gravel
Check the Gravel Level: Over time, especially after foot traffic or heavy rainfall, the gravel may shift or settle. Inspect the level of the gravel periodically.
Add More Gravel: If you notice thinning areas or depressions, simply top up the gravel with fresh 10mm Pea Gravel to maintain an even coverage. This will also help maintain the aesthetic appeal of your garden features or pathways.
Maintain the Edging
Edge Maintenance: Ensure that any edging around the gravel (such as bricks, timber, or metal edging) remains secure. This helps keep the gravel contained and prevents it from spilling over into the surrounding areas.
Replenishing After Heavy Rainfall
Displacement After Rain: If the gravel has been displaced by heavy rainfall, use a rake to redistribute it and restore the even appearance of your garden feature or pathway.
Keep It Dry and Avoid Compaction
Avoid Heavy Traffic: While Pea Gravel is suitable for paths, repeated heavy traffic can cause it to become compacted. Try to avoid areas with high footfall if you want to maintain the loose, decorative look.
Proper Drainage: Ensure that the area around the gravel is well-drained, as standing water can cause the gravel to shift and degrade over time.
Protect the Color
Limit Excessive Sun Exposure: While Pea Gravel doesn’t fade quickly, prolonged exposure to the sun may cause the colors to dull over time. Consider placing gravel in shaded areas if possible, especially for decorative uses near plants or garden features.
By following these simple steps, your 10mm Pea Gravel should remain a low-maintenance, beautiful feature in your garden, whether used for pathways, borders, or water features.
