Golden Fossil Sandstone Walling
Natural Stone Walling is a great choice for those looking to update their front or back garden by adding a strong and long-lasting wall, that will always have the same, timeless look.
Our Golden Fossil Walling perfectly matches our popular Fossil Sandstone Paving. The unique colours of this natural sandstone makes for a warm and inviting entrance to your home or garden exterior.
Fossil, as the name suggests, is a garden walling with many unique markings within it; including real fossils! Gold, Beige and Brown are the main colours that makes up this stone walling, with the occasional darker colours that run through it and could potentially be fossils from thousands of years ago!
We source our Sandstone and Limestone Walling direct from India, in a responsible and ethical way. This makes our Garden Walling eco-friendly as well as great value, as we are able to pass these savings onto our customers.
As these Walling pieces come directly from quarries in India, that essentially cut away pieces of stone from very large, natural stone, it comes with the natural qualities you'd expect. One of these include porosity of the stone; unlike Porcelain Walling, it will be semi permeable which means some water absorption should be expected. It will also naturally change colour over the years when exposed to the sun.
The look of this Natural Stone Walling is described as pitch-faced, which means they almost look like they've been tumbled; with a softer-finished front. As they have been hand cut, the sides and edges should be fairly smooth and uniform in comparison. The thickness of these pieces will vary for a really natural look.
Golden Fossil Walling for Your Garden
Many customers like the look of Golden Fossil Sandstone because of the bright and inviting colours. The wide array of colours also makes for a really natural-looking wall.
If you're wanting a long-lasting exterior wall that wraps around your garden, our Sandstone Walling is a great choice. In comparison to using plain, red bricks, Sandstone Walling will add much more character to your property, enhancing its value and individuality.
Likewise, these Walling pieces are also great for the front of your home. To add some subtle privacy, you could consider adding a low-level wall at the entrance to your driveway or front garden. If you'd like to build a higher level wall, you can use this as a gated entrance too.
If you want to create a natural-looking garden with features that perfectly complement each other, consider pairing this Golden Walling with our Golden Fossil Sandstone Paving, as well as our Golden Fossil Cobble Setts. This will really complete the look and appear very professional.

How to Build a Stone Wall
Many people will opt for a mixed-size wall, which can give you more options when it comes to building it. When you have your walling pieces, spend some time looking through them and arranging the sizes and colours so it's easier when you start to lay them.
The best practice for a long-lasting wall is a strong and stable foundation for the base. The recommended width of your foundation should be three times the width of your desired wall. For walls between 650mm and 1500mm in height, a standard, concrete foundation will suffice.
It's best to dig your foundation to a depth of 300mm, within firm soil as opposed to loose topsoil that has a lot of movement. Once you've laid the foundation with concrete, allow it to cure fully before building the wall.
Once your foundation is ready, create a mortar mix to start laying your stone walling in a brick fashion. For this mortar mix, use the ratio 1:5 or 1:6 of Cement : Building Sand. Mix this together while gradually adding water until you reach the right consistency.
Using a string line and chalk, mark the position you'd like the wall to be in. You can then start to set out some of your walling pieces in place.
Lay a bed of mortar along the chalk line on the foundation; leaving enough space for four or five walling pieces. Once you've laid your first walling piece, take your next piece and apply the mortar mix to the end, to create the joint between the first two pieces.
Use a rubber mallet to tap the pieces down and ensure you're checking the levels with the spirit level. Repeat horizontally until you reach the end of the first walling layer, and if you're happy with it, continue upwards.
