Golden Fossil Sandstone Cobble Setts
We are proud to be one of the South's largest and most trusted suppliers of garden paving, offering a wide range of products including Porcelain Paving, Sandstone Paving, Cobble Setts, Stone Walling, and more. Catering to both retail customers and trade professionals, we are dedicated to providing high-quality materials for all outdoor projects.
Our Cobble Setts are particularly popular, thanks to their calibrated design, which ensures consistent sizing and a smooth, even finish. These versatile stones are perfect for adding character to pathways, patios, or garden borders, creating a timeless and elegant look.
Among our extensive range, the Fossil Cobble Setts stand out as a customer favorite—and for good reason. One of their most enchanting features is the fern fossils naturally embedded in some stones, giving each piece a completely unique appearance. The intricate patterns and textures make every Cobble Sett a work of art, bringing a touch of natural beauty to your garden.
The color palette of Fossil Cobble Setts is equally appealing. As the name suggests, the primary tone is a rich, golden hue, with occasional shades of white, beige, and tan brown. This natural variation makes them an excellent choice for areas without a strict color scheme, as they effortlessly blend into any environment. Their earthy tones work harmoniously with all surroundings, making them ideal for pathways, patio areas, or as statement features.
To complement your paving project, we offer a variety of matching Cobble Setts in different colors, perfect for creating striking borders or decorative accents within your patio. Whether you’re looking to enhance the elegance of a traditional garden or add a rustic touch to a modern design, our Cobble Setts provide the perfect finishing touch.

How to Install Cobble Setts
Installing Cobble Setts in your garden is often simpler than working with standard natural stone paving slabs. Their smaller size and lighter weight make them much easier to handle and position, reducing the effort required during installation. Additionally, if you're using Cobble Setts as edging around a larger patio, the process can be quick and straightforward, even for an experienced DIY enthusiast. This makes them a practical and versatile option for enhancing your outdoor space with minimal hassle.
What You'll Need
- Type 1 Limestone (or a similar Aggregate as a sub-base)
- Quality Rake
- Building Sand
- Cement
- Jointing Compound
- Rubber Mallet
Prepare the Area:
Start by clearing the chosen area to a depth of approximately 150mm. Remove all weeds, debris, and loose material, ensuring the ground is dry and level.
Lay the Sub-Base:
Use Type 1 Limestone as your sub-base, spreading it evenly to a depth of at least 50mm. Make sure the layer is level and well-distributed to provide a stable foundation.
Compact the Base (Optional):
For added stability, use a wacker plate to compact the aggregate firmly. This step ensures a solid and even surface for your Cobble Setts.
Mix the Cement:
Prepare your cement mix until it reaches a slurry-like consistency. Spread the cement mixture liberally across the sub-base, working in small sections to avoid it drying out before the Setts are placed.
Lay the Cobble Setts:
Carefully position the Cobble Setts where you want them, leaving a gap of at least 20mm between each Sett for grout. Use a rubber mallet to gently tap each Sett into place, ensuring they are securely embedded.
Apply the Grout:
Once all the Cobble Setts are in place, mix your grout and apply it to fill the gaps between the stones. Work carefully to ensure a smooth and even finish.
Allow the Grout to Set:
Depending on the grout used, it may take around 6 hours to fully set. If rain is forecasted, cover the area with tarpaulin or a similar material to protect the grout while it cures.
By following these steps, you'll create a beautifully installed Cobble Sett feature that enhances your garden's aesthetics and functionality.
