Black Basalt Chippings 14mm
Our 14mm Black Basalt Chippings are some of our most popular products at the Stone Zone. As they come in a deep grey colour, they are very popular amongst our consumer base. Also referred to as Volcanic Basalt, these are naturally derived stones, that mostly come in a more angular shape.
Black Basalt Chippings is part of our best-selling Decorative Stone range. Because they have been sourced locally, we can easily monitor their quality to maintain their consistency, so you can be reassured that these stones will look great in your garden.
As a result of their angular shape, these garden Chippings are well-suited for being used on a pathway or a driveway. We would generally recommend 14mm or 20mm chippings for driveways, as this size locks together better to create a more durable base for heavy cars to park on, so these 14mm stones are perfect for any plans you may have for your garden.
We stock these black garden stones in three sizes, so you can choose where you want them. They are available as 10mm Chippings, 14mm Chippings and 20mm Chippings. Because of the sizes and their adaptability, they are suitable for a multitude of settings.

The 14mm Black Basalt is a highly adaptable decorative stone; the dark grey shades compliment contemporary properties that feature either dark interiors or completely white interiors - which is great if you are a fan of monotone furnishings. Moreover, these stones get even darker when wet, so once they have been moistened, they turn black, which means during the winter and wetter seasons, it'll feel as if you have shiny, new garden stones! A much-loved method of utilising Black Basalt Chippings is as a garden border that will go around your property, giving it a pop of colour and further dimension. It will add a lot of drama and shine when bordering some garden paving slabs, or even jazz up the area around the fence. To enjoy the Black Basalt at its full capacity, you need to see them when they're wet. That's why we think they will make an excellent addition to a water feature, be it a natural one or a manufactured water feature. If you add some black basalt around the garden, you will constantly have shiny black stones, making your garden seem extra fancy and chic. Many of our customers have started adding ponds in their garden, to make it a feature piece and to gather more wildlife in their garden, and we think the black basalt will look wonderful in and around a water feature - especially if you are making it yourself. Your garden will look like something out of a catalogue. The Black Basalt is fish and plant friendly therefore you have nothing to worry about when using them in your pond. If you're looking to purchase Black Basalt Chippings for your garden or driveway, and you know your way around a garden and DIY-ing, this will be a fairly affordable and uncomplicated project to complete. We are proud to stock some of the best landscaping materials in our depots and online and therefore we can provide all the tools you need to do the best job possible! Carefully read through our guide we have created which will give you some pointers and tips to take into account when working Chippings as a decorative garden feature. If you have decided to go with Black Basalt Chippings as your chosen decorative stone, we highly suggest that you begin by making a sturdy and secure base; to do this, use Limestone Type 1, also referred to as MOT Type 1, which is a graded, 40mm Limestone, and then lay it around 50mm depth. This step may not be necessary for all decorative features but is recommended for drives and pathways. The first thing to start with is measuring the area that you're placing the Black Basalt in, once that is completed, go ahead and use our Quantity Calculator that will work out how much base layer and garden gravel you'll need. If you are using the Black Basalt for creating borders or larger features, we also suggest you use Weed Fabric which ensures weeds won't get through from between the chippings, ensuring your garden border or garden feature still looks fresh and new for a long time to come! We supply them in various sizes so you have a range to choose from depending on how big of an area you need to cover. The only maintenance that is required from you is to top up the area with the chippings once a year just to stabilise it, which will ensure your safety when driving or walking on it. PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their true colour.Read More...
