Black Ice Chippings for Your Driveway
Irrespective of the size of your garden, be it large or not, decorative stones are an affordable and accessible way to decorate any kind of space without having to stress about it. As we have stated before, one of the best qualities of these chippings is the fact that they are angular, which allows them to lock together and ensure you have a stable and fairly even surface to walk or drive on. For a low-effort, simple way to jazz up your driveway, nothing is better than these Black Ice Chippings.
The 20mm Black Ice Chippings, as we have stated earlier, are a great way to make a statement with your driveway or pathway. Living up to its name, the Black Ice Chippings, with the glistening black and sparkling white stones will compliment your home no matter what style it is on. The shades of black and white will pair well with period properties and modern builds alike due to their minimalist look. Simply put, black and white go well with all colours.
Black Ice Chippings for Your Garden
Moreover, these decorative stones are a popular and well-loved way to decorate your garden, whether it's to create borders and divisions or add further colours and textures to already present features. Using Black Ice Chippings is neither hard to use nor is it difficult to maintain.
The Black Ice Chippings in 20mm are even a great addition if you want to decorate your pre-existing garden features such as rockery features, water features or flower beds, then these will add texture and an understated source of extra colours to make your features pop further. An excellent way to use these would be to decorate in or around a pond or a natural fountain. These stones change colour when they are dampened, therefore the black stones turn into a richer jet black and the ice blue stones look almost silver and luminescent. To make matters even better these stones are fish friendly so you can not only use them in the surrounding area of your pond but also within the pond to make a bigger statement.

How to Lay Black Ice Chippings in Your Garden
Laying out decorative chippings around your garden is not a difficult task, but we understand that it may be daunting if you don't have prior DIY experience. Therefore, to make your life a little easier, we wanted to share with you, some advice and suggestions so you are not going into this blind.
Firstly, before any stones are even part of the scene, take a good look around your garden and analyse where it would be best to put the chippings down. Measure out your chosen spot, and determine the depth you want the area to have. Once all that has been figured out, visit our website and use our clever Quality Calculator which will figure out how much of the chippings and the base material you will need to complete your project.
Step 2 is to grab yourself a shovel and start digging out the marked area. Again, make sure that you dig deep enough to have enough space for 50mm's worth of MOT Type 1 and the same amount of your Black Ice. Please don't ignore this step as any less material might result in an unstable feature area.
Once you know how much material you need, you need to put down the first layer of base material, the best thing to do to ensure your feature is as stable as possible is to put down enough material to cover 50mm's worth in depth. We suggest you use Limestone Type 1, also referred to as MOT Type 1, it is a graded, 40mm Limestone. The MOT Type 1 is the base material that is used by expert landscapers to achieve a stable base.
Once you have laid out your base material, we also suggest you put down a further layer of Weed Fabric which will stop the weeds from growing out of the stones and your feature areas to make sure your garden looks fresh and new for as long as possible. We stock a wide range of sizes of these Membranes so you can choose the one that fits your garden the best.
Now you are ready to lay down your Black Ice Chippings!
PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their true colour.
