Anthracite Black Cobble Setts are a great way to add some colour and depth to your garden. The cobbles are a dark grey, charcoal colour. As you can tell from the name, the concept of these cobbles has been heavily influenced by anthracite coal pieces and are therefore perfect if you want to create a sleek, monochromatic look in your garden. Dark Grey Cobble Setts are a great way to elevate your garden and work well as a border surrounding your patio area or even your entire garden. One garden design idea would be to match these cobbles with the corresponding Porcelain Paving, the Anthracite Black Porcelain Paving. There are a variety of ways you can utilise cobble setts in your garden; because you can purchase them as a single piece, and are easy to install, Cobble Setts are an easy solution to jazzing your garden up. Keep reading for further garden design ideas that utilise Porcelain Cobbles. A common way of using Porcelain Cobble Setts is to install them as a border around the patio you already have, or if you building a new garden from scratch. Irrespective of whether you are laying down Porcelain Paving slabs or Natural Stone garden slabs, we think the Anthracite Black Cobble Setts will make an excellent border and add that extra special finishing touch to your outdoor area. Furthermore, these cobble setts will also be able to protect your paving edges. Alongside patio paving stones, Cobble Setts pair well with other garden features as well. Features such as Artificial Grass or Turf Grass for example would look great with cobbles bordering them. On the other hand, if you have a smaller garden, Cobble Setts are a simple way to jazz up a smaller outdoor space as well. You can opt to install smaller cobble setts in your garden rather than larger Porcelain slabs to make the area look a little larger. Using smaller cobble setts gives you much more freedom and room to play around with. If you're thinking about installing our Porcelain Cobble Setts, more often than not, we would suggest hiring a professional Landscaper. However, Cobble Setts are pretty straightforward to lay if you have previous DIY experience and they are not heavy either. As a result, if you think that you can manage and have the confidence and all the required equipment, you may be able to take on this project yourself. The first step is to measure the space where you want to place your Cobble Setts. You cannot skip this process as taking measurements helps you figure out and calculate how many Cobble Sett pieces are required for your project - we strongly suggest adding +10% too. After purchasing your cobble setts, mark out the desired area with string or spray paint. Step two is to use your Landscaping Shovel, and to start digging the area you want to install the cobbles in and make sure to dig 200mm in depth. Make sure you carefully take away any hindrances such as stones and weeds for a clean, level surface to work with. In this case, a Spirit Level will come in handy, as you can use it to ensure that your working surface is level. For the third step, after the dug-out area is as level as possible, it is best practice to add a 100mm layer of MOT Type 1. Begin with pouring out 50mm of the sub-base, then use your compacting plate to push the material down as tight as possible. After that's complete, go ahead and lay out a further 50mm of MOT aggregates, and compact it down as you did before. Step four is to create your mortar mix. This is a fairly straightforward process, you need to mix 3-part Sand with 1-part Cement and 1-part Water and you will have your mortar mix! Make sure that the mixture has the consistency of a workable slurry so you can easily place your Cobble Setts on top. Step five is to spread the mortar mix generously all over the MOT sub-base and make sure to make the mixed bed slightly angled so the pieces can be installed at an angle. Do make sure to angle them properly as that makes sure that water flows down them properly. The sixth step is to start installing the Cobble Setts. Utilise a Rubber Mallet to carefully knock the setts into place in the area you want them, please remember to leave somewhere between an 8mm - 15mm gap between the stones. Step seven refers to jointing the Cobble Setts, and at Stone Zone, we are able to give you a variety of options. We are proud stockists of the best-selling brand, Azpects Easy Joint which will get the job done perfectly, you can also go with their new Easy Joint Select range. Finally, if you don't want to purchase jointing, you can always go with a more economical option and use any surplus mortar mix to join the setts together. However keep in mind, using mortar mix will only give you one standard colour whereas with EasyJoint you have a larger range so you can match the jointing with your setts. Sample setts are available in-store, please ask a customer advisor. Read More...
