40mm Plum Slate
The Stone Zone's 40mm Plum Slate are natural garden stones that make up one of our best-selling decorative stones range. All of our Slate stones and Paddlestones are quarried where they originate naturally; in North Wales.
In their dry, natural state the stones almost look dark, dusty pink, however, once they are wet, they truly live up to their popular 'plum' colour. They turn into a deep purple shade that will make any area of your garden attractive.
Welsh Slate stones differ from Pebbles and Chippings, not just because they are bigger in size but also because they are flatter and slightly more angular in shape. Due to their larger size, they are ideal for any type of garden feature; instantly brightening up and elevating the area. You can use these stones to decorate your fishpond as they are fish friendly and won't cause harm to the fish. However, these are unsuitable for driveways and paths due to their larger size and brittle nature.

How to Create a Garden Pond
Whether or not you want to design a contemporary, chic garden water feature that will be a focal point in your garden, or if you are looking to have a rustic, natural-looking pond that will be perfect for encouraging more wildlife visits to your garden, we have created a useful guide to create your own garden pond! It is a cost-effective and straightforward project and therefore suitable for anyone to try.
1. To begin with, you need to create a small blueprint of your garden and decide where you want the pond to go. Take a few things into consideration before you make your final decision on the placement; consider any surrounding trees - you don't want to have to constantly clear leaves from the pond so we would advise somewhere clear of trees or bushes. We think the ideal place for a pond would a shady area with a small amount of sunlight so the water doesn't get too warm and you won't have too much debris falling into it.
2. The 2nd step is to figure out how big or small you want your pond to be and where you are going to get it from. If you have decided upon a pond that will be on level ground then easy-to-find plastic ponds will do the job perfectly. The best thing for you to do would be to spray paint around your chosen vessel just so you have the exact size mapped out. However, if you are planning on creating an elevated pond, then we suggest using Sleepers that you can line with plastic.
3. For a ground-level pond, use a spade to dig out the exact area to the correct depth. You can use Scalpings that will enable you to fill up any gaps that may be left.
4. Now you are ready to add the water! Solar-powered water pumps are a popular option to create a more effective water feature, with constant flowing water. Everyone loves a water fountain.
5. Finally, take some time to decide what your pond area will look like. If you want your pond to look more natural and as if it's a part of the garden seamlessly, purchase larger Rockery stones with in addition to smaller stones like our Plum Slate. If you want to take it one step further then you can purchase some aquatic plants to add greenery to your pond to make it look even more natural.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their true colour.
