Morales Beige Outdoor Porcelain Slabs
Beige has long been a favorite choice for garden patios, as its neutral tone pairs effortlessly with various color schemes, giving you the flexibility to design your outdoor space just the way you want. These Beige Porcelain Slabs have been engineered to endure both frost and intense heat, making them especially suitable for England's unpredictable weather.
One of their key features is their impermeability—water cannot penetrate the slabs, ensuring that spills can be easily wiped away without staining. This makes them practical for areas prone to moisture or frequent use.
These slabs also complement a variety of garden elements, such as fresh turf, artificial grass, decorative stones, and more, allowing you to create a cohesive, well-designed outdoor space.
Additionally, the slabs are resistant to grime, mould, and stains, making them ideal for family homes where spills and outdoor messes are common. Whether you have pets or a lot of trees in your garden, cleaning the patio will be hassle-free.
Finally, the slabs are rated R10 slip-resistant, providing added safety during wet weather or when placed near a swimming pool, ensuring a secure surface even in the rain.
How to Install Murales Beige Porcelain Tiles
Installing outdoor porcelain paving requires careful preparation and precise techniques to ensure a durable and visually appealing surface. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you install porcelain paving for patios, pathways, or other outdoor spaces:
Plan and Design
Measure the Area: Start by measuring the area you want to pave and decide on a layout. Include any patterns, borders, or other design elements in your plan.
Choose Your Porcelain Pavers: Select pavers that match your style and needs, considering factors like size, thickness, and color.
Prepare the Site
Mark the Area: Use stakes and string to mark the boundaries of your paving area. Ensure the layout is square or follows the intended shape.
Excavate the Area: Dig out the area to a depth of about 150-200mm (6-8 inches). This will allow for the sub-base, bedding layer, and porcelain paving. Make sure the area slopes slightly away from buildings for proper drainage.
Create a Sub-Base
Add a Sub-Base Layer: Spread a layer of MOT Type 1 crushed stone or hardcore across the excavated area, to about 100-150mm (4-6 inches) deep.
Compact the Sub-Base: Use a plate compactor or tamper to compact the sub-base layer thoroughly, ensuring it’s firm and level. This provides a stable foundation for your paving.
Prepare the Bedding Layer
Mix the Mortar: Prepare a strong mortar mix using sharp sand and cement, ideally in a 4:1 ratio (4 parts sand, 1 part cement). The mortar should have a semi-dry consistency.
Spread the Mortar: Apply the mortar over the sub-base in small sections at a time (about 30mm/1-1.5 inches deep), keeping the surface level but with a slight slope for drainage.
Apply Primer to Porcelain Pavers
Use a Slurry Primer: Apply a slurry primer to the back of each porcelain paver before laying it onto the mortar bed. This helps ensure a strong bond between the smooth porcelain and the mortar. Azpects EASYPrime or similar products are commonly used for this step.
Lay the Porcelain Pavers
Place the Pavers: Begin laying the porcelain slabs, starting from one corner and working your way across. Place each paver onto the mortar bed, gently pressing down.
Use Spacers: Maintain a consistent gap of about 3-5mm between the pavers using spacers to allow for jointing material.
Check for Level: Use a spirit level to ensure each paver is level with the others. Adjust the height by tapping gently with a rubber mallet.
Cutting Porcelain Pavers (if needed)
Use a Wet Tile Saw: For custom cuts, use a wet tile saw with a diamond blade specifically designed for porcelain. Always wear protective gear like gloves and goggles while cutting.
Jointing the Paving
Fill the Joints: Once all the pavers are laid and the mortar has partially set (usually 24 hours), fill the gaps with a jointing compound or sand.
For porcelain paving, use a specialized jointing compound like EASYJoint for porcelain.
Apply the jointing material as per manufacturer instructions, sweeping it into the gaps and using water to activate it (if required).
Final Finishing
Clean the Surface: After jointing, clean the surface with a soft brush and water to remove any excess compound or debris.
Allow the Paving to Set: Let the paving fully set for at least 24-48 hours before using the area. Avoid heavy traffic during this time.
Sealing (Optional)
Consider Sealing: While porcelain is non-porous and doesn't require sealing, sealing the joints and surrounding areas may offer added protection against dirt and stains. Make sure the jointing compound is completely cured before applying any sealer.
Maintenance Tips
Regular Cleaning: Keep your porcelain paving clean with regular sweeping and occasional jet washing to maintain its appearance.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Use mild detergents and avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the pavers or jointing material.
By following these steps, you’ll have a durable, stylish, and low-maintenance porcelain paving installation that enhances your outdoor space.
