How to Lay Purbeck Chippings in Your Garden 

Laying Purbeck Chippings around your garden is not a complicated process. If you are new to DIY-ing then this is a great project to start with. To make things slightly easier, we have created a little guide to ease you on your way. However, you always have the option to hire a professional if you want a guarantee that everything has been done in the best possible way.

The first thing you need to do is create a stable base that will be safe to drive or walk on, as well as offer good drainage. We recommend using Limestone Type 1 (MOT Type 1) to level out the area - this is the preferred product by many Landscapers as the Limestone Type 1 is graded 40mm Limestone and great for creating a level base.

Once step one is complete, now you need to map out where you want the stones to go, considering both width and depth of the area. Once you have created the blueprint, you can go ahead and use our Quantity Calculator that will figure out how much base layer and Purbeck Chippings you require for your desired spot. As a general guideline, we think 50mm is the optimal depth for the base.

For added peace of mind, we strongly suggest that you implement a layer of Weed Fabric. If you can, please do not skip this step as it will help you in the long term by hindering the growth and spread of weeds, ruining the aesthetic. We supply Weed Membranes in a range of sizes so you can buy the one that fits your garden the best.

After these optional steps have been taken, you can lay your cream garden chippings onto the surface, at a depth of 30mm - 50mm. Hopefully you will have some of these garden chippings left as and when this area needs topping up.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their true colour.
