20mm Ballast
We take immense pride in our immense Trade and DIY range which is specifically designed for professional Landscapers and Builders, but can also be used by retail customers who do a bit of DIY-ing! As one of Dorset's largest Builders Merchants, our high-quality products are supplied at a very competitive rate.
For the most part, our 20mm Ballast is a light, sandy brown colour scattered with differently coloured stones mixed in. Mostly consisting of sharp sand, our 20mm Ballast is mostly a product of 20mm stones which gradually become fine sand. As a result of this, the Ballast makes for a great material for creating smooth concrete mixtures, pipe beddings, building levelling and landscaping constructions.
The 20mm Ballast has been developed in the majority from naturally derived materials. This includes aggregates such as Shingle ranging from 6mm to 10mm in size, all mixed in with Sharp Sand. Because of this, we do not suggest you use 20mm Ballast in areas that you want to look visually appealing. We advise this because depending on where the Ballast is quarried from, the colours differ.

Professional Landscapers and Builders are inundated with options for what kind of materials and supplies they can use for their projects that require developing building foundations and laying concrete bases. Ballast has similar properties that are similar to building materials such as Scalpings 40mm and Hoggin. These materials are adaptable and versatile because they are permeable by nature and affordable. A regular Concrete mix consists of aggregates and sand, Ballast is the ideal material to add to Concrete mixes in order to create a durable mix. As a result of its consistency, it tends to make a finer and smoother Concrete mixture. Builders and Landscapers prefer utilising Ballast due to its ease of use and consistency; The concrete emulsion can be utilised in several ways such as securing fence posts and placing garden sheds. For construction purposes, our 20mm Ballast is a very popular and well-used aggregate as it is widely used to create the foundation of a building. Due to Ballast being such a permeable material, it aids in preventing flooding in more modern properties and builds. The 20mm Ballast is appropriate for a wide range of landscaping projects. For example, if you are thinking about having a new patio in your garden in a spot where paving has never been laid before, then you want to make sure that, that particular area is prepared properly and is at the correct level. Ballast is useful in these situations because they are ideal for creating a hardy sub-base as the small particles help with filling in holes and gaps. Moreover, if you want to design an edging around a garden path, Ballast will be useful to you for creating the sub-base emulsion. You will also be able to use the Ballast to create a permeable aggregate layer that is perfect for laying underneath other garden features such as Artificial Grass or Decorative Stones.
