This decorative, flint shingle is a highly versatile decorative garden stone due to its neutral colours; the cream-coloured stones make for a very natural, yet eye-catching garden border. Yorkshire Cream looks especially great laid against a naturally-coloured garden fence, around your house or even set against an area with garden paving slabs. For a low maintenance decorative area in your garden, perhaps a place where your shed sits, or an area in the garden that doesn't get a lot of sun, why not use Yorkshire Cream Shingle to create a decorative garden feature that is completely self-contained? Due to this flint shingle being 20mm, it also makes it nice and easy to walk on! Are you heavily invested in nature? Do you own a pond that might have a whole host of wildlife populating it? Why not add a bit of interest to your garden pond by scattering some Yorkshire Cream Shingle around the edges? Particularly great for ponds that are very natural, this decorative stone will add some lovely colour and make it look even more natural! Plus, due ot its fish-friendly properties, Yorkshire Cream is even safe to add to your pond! As well as adding it to a naturally-occurring garden pond, people have historically added it to a natural water feature that they have in their back garden. The cream-coloured stones deepen in colour when they're wet and look even more impressive! If you're thinking about adding Yorkshire Cream Shingle to your garden as a decorative feature, you'll be pleased to know that it's a fairly low-cost and easy task! For the best hints and tips, read our how-to guide below. Generally speaking, we would always recommend installing a stable base for the stone to go on; Limestone Type 1, also referred to as MOT Type 1, would be suitable, which is a graded, 40mm Limestone. Once you have measured the desired space in which you'd like the decorative shingle to be in, you can then use our Quantity Calculator to work out how much stone you'll need. We would suggest having a base of 50mm. Dig out the desired area with a depth between 50mm - 150mm, ensuring this includes 50mm for your MOT Type 1 base and 50mm for your Cream Shingle. Add your 40mm Limestone Type 1 to your dug-out area and ensure a minimum of 50mm is laid. Not only will this provide a durable base, but it will also aid drainage. We recommend installing a layer of Weed Fabric to ensure pesky weeds don't start coming through the fabric; these come in multiple sizes for you to choose from. Once the fabric has been laid, you can start putting your Yorkshire Cream Gravel down! Remember to add this to at least a 50mm depth. PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their true colour. Want to imagine what your dream garden could look like?
