This is done by using Limestone Type 1, also referred to as MOT Type 1, which is a graded, 40mm Limestone. It is the most appropriate and widely used product to create a stable base. Before starting, make sure you know where you want our Red Flame Chippings to go. Then, visit our website and use our Quantity Calculator, which will work out how many stones you'll need to complete your project. We recommend having a base that is 50mm in depth. You can now proceed to dig out the area where you want your stones to go, make sure the depth is between 50-150mm - which caters to the 50mm you need for the MOT Type 1 base and your Red Flame Chippings. Once you have dug out the area it's now time to add the 40mm Limestone Type 1, and again, please make to add a minimum of 50mm depth's worth. Please do not skip this step as it is very important for drainage purposes underneath your stones. We strongly advise that you install a layer of Weed Fabric to prevent weeds from springing up through the fabric; we supply these in our depots and on our website, and they are available in a range of sizes depending on the size of your garden. Once the weed membrane has been laid securely, you can start dropping in your Red Flame! Please be mindful and ensure that at a minimum you add 50mm's worth of stone to create a truly stable area. PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour.
