Oyster Shingle 20mm for your Property
Although these Shingle are 20mm in size, due to their more rounded shape, we do not recommend you use them for a drive or pathway as they won't be able to lock in with each other link more angular stones can, and because of that, they will not be able to create a stable to drive or walk on.
This does not mean that you cannot use the Oyster Shingle to decorate your front garden, to create a truly eye-catching entrance. One excellent design idea you can consider is using paving slabs to create a walkway towards your front door and surrounding those pavers with Oyster Shingles to create a vintage, cottage-like look.
Furthermore, a significant reason why these stones are so popular is that they do not require any time and effort to maintain, making them ideal for those who want to decorate their garden, but not add to their workload. All you need to do is top the stones up every year to ensure that they look even.

How to Lay Shingle For A Feature Area
Creating a feature area using the 20mm Oyster Shingle is a pretty basic project that you will be able to complete even without too much DIY experience! If you want the satisfaction of completing your garden project, then we have created a little guide to help you out.
Before purchasing anything, get a tape measure and measure out the area you want the feature area to be, and how deep you want it to be. Once all that has been determined, visit our website where our clever Quantity Calculator will work out how much base layer and Oyster Shingle you will need to cover your desired area. We always say that it's best practice to have room for at least 50mm of the base layer.
As mentioned in the previous step, you will need to have a base layer for your Oysters to lay on and to do that you will need Limestone Type 1, also referred to as MOT Type 1, which is a graded, 40mm Limestone.
It's finally time for you to start digging. Start hacking away at the area that had been designated earlier to a depth ranging from 50mm - 150mm, making sure to have enough room for 50mm's worth of Limestone, and 50mm's worth of your Oysters.
Now go ahead and the MOT Type 1 to the area, and again make sure it's 50mm deep at a minimum, which is what the depth needs to be for it to be effective. Any less than this can mean that your base is not stable enough.
We also advise that you install a layer of Weed fabric so you prevent the growth and spread of weeds through the feature area. We stock a wide range of sizes so you can choose the Weed membrane that is right for your garden.
Finally, once all those layers have been properly installed, you can start laying down your Oyster Shingle. Again, please make sure that you pour enough to cover at least 50mm in depth.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their true colour.
