How to Lay Shingle For A Feature Area

Designing a feature area with the 20mm Ocean Blue Pebbles is a fairly straightforward project that you can undertake even if you don't have prior DIY experience, it is that easy! Completing these projects on your own will be easy, satisfying and not time-consuming at all.

Before you buy any of the necessary products, carefully measure out the area where you want the feature area to be and decide the depth as well. Once you have confirmed those details, you can go ahead and use the Quantity Calculator on our website which will tell you how much of the Ocean Blue Pebbles and base material you will need to complete the project. In our opinion, with think, you will have the most secure base if you have room for at least 50mm of the base layer.

As we stated earlier, you must have a base layer for your Ocean Blues to lay on and to do that you will need  Limestone Type 1, also referred to as MOT Type 1, which is a graded, 40mm Limestone. 

You cannot start digging out the designated area. Start digging through the area that you had marked earlier to a depth ranging from 50mm - 150mm, ensuring that you have enough space for 50mm's worth of Limestone, and 50mm's worth of your Ocean Blue Pebbles.

You can now proceed to add the MOT Type 1 to the dugout area and make sure it reaches 50mm in depth, which is the required measurement for the area to be stable. if you don't put enough of the base material you do run the risk of the area not being stable enough.

Additionally, we also suggest that you lay down a layer of Weed fabric to inhibit the growth and spreading of weeds around the feature area, making sure it looks shiny and new constantly. We have a wide range of sizes so you can choose the Fabric that is right for your garden.

Lastly, once all the necessary parts have been added in, you can start laying down your Ocean Blue Pebbles. Again, please make sure that you pour enough to cover at least 50mm in depth.

On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their true colour.
