Wreaths

Natural Wreaths are a lovely way to add decorations around your garden and a fun Christmas activity you can do with your family. A few weeks a go we shared a little guide on how to create natural Christmas wreaths that you can place in and around your home and garden and we would like to reiterate the effectiveness of Wreaths as Christmas decorations.

Christmas Tree

Now, we know that it’s a little too late to plant a Christmas tree in your garden now, BUT if you want to be able to grown your own Christmas tree for next year, you have to start as soon after the 25th as possible.

Even still, we have a simple guide to give you an idea on how to grow one yourself:

Choose the Right Tree Species

Select a species suited to your climate and preferences. Common options include:

Fir (Douglas, Fraser, Noble): Known for their needle retention and fragrance.

Pine (Scots, White): Grow quickly and have sturdy branches.

Spruce (Norway, Blue): Beautiful appearance but may lose needles faster indoors.

Research which species thrive in your local area.

Acquire Quality Seeds or Saplings

Buy seeds from a reputable supplier, or collect cones from mature trees in autumn.

Saplings or transplants (2-3 years old) are easier and faster to grow than seeds.

Prepare the Planting Site

Location: Choose a sunny, well-drained area with good air circulation.

Soil: Ensure the soil is slightly acidic (pH 5.5–6.5) and rich in organic matter.

Remove weeds and grass to reduce competition.

Planting

Seeds: Plant in a nursery bed or pots for 1–2 years before transplanting to the field.

Saplings: Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, loosen the soil, and place the sapling at the same depth as it was in the pot or nursery.

Care and Maintenance

Watering: Ensure consistent moisture but avoid waterlogging.

Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer (10-10-10) during the growing season.

Mulching: Use organic mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Pruning: Shape the tree annually in late winter to maintain a classic Christmas tree shape. Remove dead or crowded branches.

Watch for common pests like aphids or spider mites, and use appropriate treatments.

Deer and rabbits may browse on young trees, so consider protective fencing.

Patience and Harvesting

Christmas trees typically take 6–10 years to reach 6–8 feet in height.

Once mature, cut the tree close to the ground using a handsaw.

For a sustainable approach, plant a new sapling every time you harvest a tree.

Alternatively, grow your tree in a pot for indoor use, which can be replanted outdoors after the holiday season

A Cosy Area

Even though the weather has turned chilly, we want to take advantage of our outdoor space as much as possible and that is why we suggest you design a little cosy corner in your garden that can be decorated with seating, picnic tables and firepits to keep you warm and toasty. We think a little cosy area is perfect for Christmas time since you can enjoy it with your friends and family.

Re-do Your Lawn

Christmas in the UK rarely comes with snowy landscapes—it’s more likely to bring mild, grey, and muddy conditions. If the entrance to your home is carnage after  all the rain and wind, or your back garden looks like it’s hosted a tire-spinning race, now might be the perfect time to install an artificial lawn.

Why Choose Artificial Grass?

Artificial grass installation is quick and efficient, typically taking just a day or two depending on the size of your space. Once installed, your garden will stay lush and green all year round, regardless of foot traffic, playful pets, or frolicking kids.

Invest in Quality for Long-Term Benefits

While most artificial grass options reduce mud, investing in high-quality turf ensures durability and value. Our artificial grass is crafted with resilience in mind:

Superior Durability: Our fibres are up to 40% more resilient than standard options, retaining their shape even with frequent use.

Tough Backing: Designed to withstand strain, the ultra-durable backing prevents detachment, ensuring your lawn stays in top condition over time.

Bring brightness to your outdoor space this winter with a low-maintenance, long-lasting artificial lawn that transforms your garden into a mud-free, green haven!
