Tools and Materials You Need:
- Tape measure
- Stringline
- Spade (for digging)
- Spirit Level
- Hand Saw
- Protective eye-wear and clothing
Step 1: Measure and Plan
Determine the desired height and length of your fence. Use these measurements to calculate the correct height for your fence posts.
Step 2: Dig the Post Holes
Using a spade or post-hole digger, create holes for the posts. Ensure the holes are deep enough to allow approximately 182.5cm of the post to remain above ground.
Step 3: Add a Sub-Base
Pour a layer of Type 1 Limestone into the base of each hole. This prevents the post from sinking over time and adds stability to the structure.
Step 4: Position the Posts
Insert the post into the hole and use a spirit level to check that it is straight and plumb.
Step 5: Secure the Posts
Fill the hole with concrete, ensuring the post remains level. Repeat this process for all the posts and allow the concrete to fully set before continuing.
Step 6: Install the Bottom Rail
Once the posts are firmly in place, slide the bottom rail into position at the base of the posts.
Step 7: Insert the Fencing Boards
Begin adding the Wessex® 'Verde' Composite Fencing boards by sliding them into the rails. Make sure each board is level before adding the next. Continue until the section is fully filled.
Step 8: Add the Top Rail
After all the boards are in place, slide the top rail over the posts to secure the structure.
Step 9: Finish with Post Caps
Finally, attach post caps to all the posts. These not only improve stability but also protect the posts from weather exposure.
By following these steps, you’ll achieve a sturdy, attractive fence that’s built to last.
Additional Tips
For uneven ground, you may need to trim the boards slightly to achieve a consistent fence height.
Ensure you have the correct tools, such as a spirit level, post-hole digger, rubber mallet, and saw (if cutting is needed).
By following this guide, you can create a durable and stylish fence that will enhance your garden for years to come!
