Weedcheck Weed Control Membrane
We all want a garden that looks clean, tidy, and filled with fresh flowers, and the last thing we need is for pesky weeds to sprout through our rockery features, gaps in our paving or through our lawn. To prevent such a thing, it is always best practice to roll out a later Weedcheck Weed Control Membrane above the sub-base to add a protective layer to your garden surface. Not only does the Membrane prevent weeds from spreading in your garden, but it has also been cleverly designed to be ‘breathable’ and lets air and water seep through to the soil so your garden can bloom.

This means that you won’t need to replenish your stones and aggregates as often, especially during England’s rainy weather.

Aggregate areas
If you have a walkway or driveway that you have filled with aggregates such as Shingles or Scalpings, then installing a layer of Weed Fabric underneath is essential to ensure that there aren’t any weeds poking through and destroying the aesthetics.
Pedestrian areas

Walkways can be paved with Sandstone or Porcelain Paving which can handle heavy traffic but cannot always prevent weeds from coming out, hence a layer of Weed Fabric will come in handy.
Flower beds
The last thing you want after working hard planting your flowers is for weeds to pop through and ruin the entire garden area. This is why we strongly suggest installing a layer of weed fabric above the sub-base to ensure that not only do your flowers receive all the helpful nutrients but also keep the weeds at bay. To give your flower beds an extra boost check out our Wessex Soils range to give your flowers the best chance from the get-go.
Under decking with mulch

How to Install Weedcheck Weed Control Membrane
To install the Weed Membrane in an area covered in aggregates, start by removing any plants and vegetation and clear the area of any sharp objects that could potentially damage the Weedcheck. We also advise you to remove any bulbs from the area as well.
On the other hand, if you are laying the Weedcheck in a garden area, you need to prepare the soil. Start by removing all the weeds you can see and then apply plant feed around the area.
Once your area is completely clean, go ahead and lay down the Weed Membrane over the necessary area and make sure to secure the edges carefully. Get your hands on a garden spade and dig down around 150mm deep and tuck in the Weedcheck vertically.
If you end up using joins, then we recommend an overlap of 100mm. You can always use pins to keep everything in place but the best practice is to use mulch to keep everything in its proper place; you can also use stones to keep the membrane from moving around whilst completing this project.
Now you can go ahead and place your plants on top and get them ready for planting.
Next, get a sharp cutting tool and cut a cross on the membrane, open it up and scoop out the soil underneath. Water the area and place your plant in the hole. Place we membrane back and be careful to ensure that there are no soil sediments left above the membrane.
To be extra cautious you can always trim a spare piece of the membrane and use it to cover the cross.
Now you can cover the bed with the mulch of your choice. If you choose aggregates or coconut mulch, add 40mm worth; if you have selected bark mulch, add enough to cover a depth of 50-60mm.
Finally, make sure that Weedcheck is covered with mulch within 24 hours of laying.
