GroundCheck 80gsm Woven Geotextile
If you are looking for a membrane that can be used for reinforcement and stabilising in your garden then we strongly recommend the GroundCheck 80gsm Woven Geotextile. Installing a layer of the 80gsm GroundCheck will allow you to protect your aggregates and create a low-maintenance and stable outdoor space.
The term ‘Woven Geotextile’ refers to a type of membrane that most often comes in black, and is developed by weaving (hence the name) or knitting singular pieces of threads to eventually create a large sheet. The weaving process ensures that the GroundCheck has much stronger bonds compared to non-woven membranes, which in turn means they are ideal for areas that get heavy loads, railways, and construction areas.

Benefits of GroundCheck
Protects Aggregates
One of the most useful features GroundCheck possess’ is that is able to inhibit your garden aggregates from getting lost in the soil. This may not seem like a big deal to many gardeners at first, but it can be bothersome and expensive to lose large amounts of aggregates every time there is rainy weather. Therefore, by laying down a layer of GroundCheck Geotextile you are creating a protective layer that will neatly gather any stray aggregates that may have gone astray.
Pedestrian & Vehicle Safe
The GroundCheck is a versatile membrane and can therefore be used in a wide range of outdoor spaces both commercial and domestic, which therefore means that you can safely install them below pedestrian walkways, such as garden paving, street pavements, etc. Moreover, GroundCheck is also applicable for areas that get heavy vehicular traffic. This geotextile is able to add strength to driveways and parking spaces to create a secure area.
Low Maintenance
Installing the GroundCheck 80gsm Woven Geotextile will ultimately allow you to build a low-maintenance garden. This extra layer of protection will ensure that your garden is strengthened from the ground up and in stable condition. This means that no matter how much foot traffic your garden gets, or how erratic the weather, you can rest assured that there won’t be any damage done to your garden.
Air & Liquid Permeable
The fact that air and liquid are able to permeate through the GroundCheck is a great advantage as that means if you have laid some in your garden and your area is prone to rain or mild flooding. This also means that any plants, flowers, and produce will still be able to get their nutrients through the fabric.
GroundCheck Applications
Aggregates Driveways
There are a variety of ways you can utilise GroundCheck in your garden, but one of its most popular uses is below Aggregate driveways. As we have mentioned earlier, GroundCheck is excellent for adding reinforcement and stability to areas, and with that in mind, laying them below your driveway will ensure that you have a durable and long-lasting driveway. Especially for areas that see a lot of vehicular traffic, a stable area is essential, so not only will you have a long-lasting driveway without worrying about it wearing down, but you also don’t have to worry about losing any of the aggregates.
Garden Paths
The GroundCheck is also an excellent choice for a domestic garden path. In order to ensure that your turfed or paved areas have a secure base that can gather any loose aggregates and enable you to design a fairly low-maintenance garden.
Other Suitable Applications include:
- Horse manège and root protection
- Under cellular confinement systems
- Under Type 1 for stability for block paved drives, artificial grass, and roads
How to Install GroundCheck
As we have mentioned earlier, GroundCheck has been specially designed for stabilisation and separation applications. Follow our guide to get a rough idea of what is required to install GroundCheck in your garden.
Step 1 is to dig out the desired area where you want to lay the GroundCheck. Make sure you dig deep enough to allow space for the sub-base and the soil, after which you must compact them down.
Step 2 is to lay the GroundCheck. Make sure that you have extra material of around 250mm overlapping at the joins and then secure the corners with barbed pegs.
Step 3 Proceed to carefully add a layer of Type 1 above the GroundCheck.
Step 4 Level and compact the Type one, using either a vibrating plate or a roller
Please keep in mind that due to the make-up of GroundCheck and the size of its hole, it is not the best choice for controlling weeds, but can still offer a little protection; however, plants like rhizomes, bulbs and corn are highly likely to peek through.
