How to Lay Silver Grey Chippings in Your Garden

We have created a handy guide packed with useful advice and tips to make your life easier if you want to take on the project to lay these Silver Grey Granite Chippings in your garden.

The first step is to put down a stable base. The most popular and the most reliable way of creating a stable base for your decorative to be installed on is to use Limestone Type 1, also referred to as MOT Type 1, it is a graded, 40mm Limestone. It is the most widely used method when creating a base, so you know you're in good hands.

Then go ahead and measure out the area where you will be putting your stones. When that's been confirmed, visit our website, where you can use our Quantity Calculator. This will determine how much of the base material and how much of the Silver Grey Granite you will need to fill up your desired area. We would advise that you put down a base of 50mm in depth.

Dig out the marked spot to a depth between 50mm - 150mm, making sure that you have enough space for the 50mm for your MOT Type 1 base and 50mm for your Grey Chippings.

Add your 40mm Limestone Type 1 to the area you have dug out and make certain that a minimum of 50mm is laid. This is an aid in providing a strong base and also helps with drainage.

We strongly suggest that you install a layer of Weed Fabric to ensure all unwanted weeds don't start sprouting out through your stones; these come in multiple sizes for you to choose from depending on what is appropriate for your garden.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal they’re true colour.
