Fernlea Sandstone Cobble Setts
The Stone Zone’s Fernlea Cobble Setts, with their grey-beige tones, perfectly complement our Fernlea Sandstone Paving and various other beige or light grey slabs, creating a harmonious border. Available in three different sizes, these cobbles offer versatile design options. Whether you want a decorative border winding through your garden, steps leading from soft to hard landscaping, or a unique pathway, you can customize your outdoor space to suit your needs.
Because Fernlea Setts are naturally derived, they instantly impart an antiquated and vintage look that’s hard to replicate with other materials. Each patio will be unique, featuring natural variations that add character and charm, evolving beautifully over time.
Why Choose Fernlea Sandstone Cobble Setts
We understand that when you undertake a landscaping project, you want the results to last and retain their quality for years. That’s why our Fernlea Setts are an excellent choice. These hardy edging stones are built to endure and, with proper maintenance, will remain a beautiful feature in your garden for the foreseeable future. Rest assured, our Cobble Setts are durable and designed to stand the test of time, eliminating the need for frequent refurbishments.
Enhancing your garden doesn't have to be expensive. Our Fernlea Sandstone Cobble Setts are a cost-effective and aesthetically pleasing option for adding a finishing touch. You don't need to cover your entire garden with these stones to achieve a sophisticated look. Instead, consider using them as edging or borders for your patio, or as dividers to segment different areas of your garden.
As the Fernlea Cobble Setts are made from natural stones, they will gradually change in colour, and lighting to create a more muted and softer look over time. This natural ageing process ensures your garden remains dynamic and evolving. Unlike other paving options, such as concrete, which can show obvious signs of wear, the Fernlea Setts age gracefully, maintaining their charm and integrity.
Fernlea Sandstone Cobble Setts for Your Garden
There is a wide range of designs you can create using our Cobble Setts to give your garden a polished and professional look.
One of the most popular uses for Fernlea Setts is creating borders and edges. To achieve a clean and crisp patio, a matching border adds the perfect finishing touch. This not only makes your patio look tidier but also gives it a more structured and elegant appearance.
Additionally, Fernlea Setts can be used to edge the entire circumference of your garden, providing a neat and cohesive look. You have numerous design options to choose from, allowing you to tailor your garden to your specific vision. Adding a border with these Setts will give your garden more structure and definition.
Moreover, the Fernlea Setts complement the Fernlea Sandstone Paving perfectly. However, don't hesitate to explore other paving colours, as these Setts also pair beautifully with grey, light blue, or beige slabs.
Fernlea Sandstone Cobble Setts Maintenance
As you may already know from using Sandstone Paving slabs, Sandstone Cobbles also require regular maintenance to ensure they remain in top condition for years to come.
When it comes to sealing the cobbles, the approach varies depending on their environment. In many cases, sealing the edging stones may not be necessary. However, if the cobbles are laid in areas prone to algae, animal droppings, urine, berries from trees, or BBQ residue, we strongly recommend sealing the Fernlea Cobble Setts.
At Stone Zone, we proudly offer Azpects products, which are ideal for sealing and protecting your paving. The Azpects Easy Seal SSP 5L and Azpects Easy Seal Enhancer & Sealer 5L are specifically designed to penetrate, seal, and protect natural stone and concrete paving. These sealers are tailored for natural stone, ensuring your cobbles remain fresh and well-protected.

Differences Between Porcelain and Sandstone Cobble Setts
Sandstone Cobbles:
Sandstone cobble setts are quarried from natural stone deposits. This gives each piece a unique look with natural variations in colour, texture, and pattern.
Aesthetic Appeal: The natural variations lend a classic, rustic, and antique charm to gardens and patios. Sandstone setts typically come in earthy tones like browns, beiges, and greys.
Porosity: Being a natural stone, sandstone is porous, which means it can absorb moisture. This can lead to weathering over time and requires regular maintenance.
Maintenance: Sandstone setts need to be sealed, especially in areas prone to staining from algae, animal droppings, or BBQ residue. Regular cleaning, including jet washing, is recommended to maintain their appearance.
Natural Strength: While sandstone is durable, it is generally more brittle than porcelain. It can chip or crack under heavy loads or impact.
Weathering: Over time, sandstone setts will show signs of weathering, which can enhance their rustic appeal but may also require more upkeep.
Natural Variability: The unique variations in each stone piece can create a more organic and visually interesting layout.
Traditional Look: Ideal for projects that aim for a classic, vintage, or rustic aesthetic.
Porcelain Cobbles:
Manufactured: Porcelain cobble setts are man-made, and produced in factories where the design and finish are precisely controlled.
Uniform Appearance: Due to the manufacturing process, porcelain setts have a more uniform appearance with consistent colour and pattern, which can replicate the look of natural stone, wood, or other materials.
Non-Porous: Porcelain setts are non-porous, making them highly resistant to moisture, staining, and weathering.
Low Maintenance: These setts are much easier to maintain, usually requiring just a simple hose down to keep them clean. They do not need sealing and are more resistant to the effects of algae and stains.
Manufactured Strength: Porcelain setts are engineered to be extremely hard and durable. They are highly resistant to chipping, cracking, and heavy loads.
Longevity: Due to their non-porous nature and manufacturing process, porcelain setts maintain their appearance and structural integrity for a longer period with minimal maintenance.
Controlled Design: Offers a wide range of colours and finishes, including designs that mimic natural stone, wood, or other materials.
Modern Look: Perfect for achieving a sleek, modern, and uniform appearance in garden and patio designs.
