The Birth of Chicken Run Hardwood Chippings

Our highly popular Chicken Run Chippings are a result of an idea from our Marketing Manager! After keeping chickens herself, she knows the upkeep that is involved, and how important it is for them to have a consistent base to walk and sleep on. After looking into a wood chip suitable for her chickens, the idea of Chicken Run Chippings was hatched. 

Very similar to our sister product; Path Chip, these Wood Chippings are suitable for a variety of other different uses, but the high quality, durability and consistency make them the ideal solution for chicken runs! Being a completely natural product that is inspected for quality assurance, it makes it a product you can rely on for your feathered friends!

Chicken Run Chippings consist of both hardwood and softwood chips, making it the perfect balance of a stable base for chickens to walk on, as well as being soft enough to be comfortable underfoot and to sleep on. The lovely, natural smell of these fresh wood chips also helps to keep your chicken run smelling fresh too!

The Story of Our Eco-Friendly Chicken Coop Chips

A question we have been asked before is if our Chicken Run Chips have come from virgin wood. We are proud to say that our Chicken Coop Chips are sourced entirely from recycled trees that have already been taken down within large garden projects by tree surgeons. 

These trees are referred to as 'waste' trees that may have been cut down from gardens or other public places. These are then taken to a local site in Dorset to be chipped using a wood chipper and then mulched down to be taken to our Stone Zone warehouse in Dorset. 

This process ensures a purpose is given to trees that have been required to be cut down for various reasons, as well as ensuring virgin trees aren't being cut down just to be turned into wood chips.  

By sourcing these Wood Chips directly from where they are chipped in Dorset, it also means the carbon footprint of our Chips is minimal, due to the small amount of transportation involved.

How to Buy Chicken Coop Chips

850kg bulk bags (approximately 0.6m³)

These wood chips can be collected for free at one of our depots in Wimborne, Bournemouth or Dorchester, or our garden soils can be delivered nationally to anywhere in the UK.

We can also deliver our soils as loose, tipped loads, as opposed to being in bags. Please call our friendly team on 01202 874207 if you require this service.

PLEASE NOTE: While every effort has been made to ensure our soils and wood chips are free from contamination; there is always the chance that there may be small pieces of debris present. Please ensure you handle the soil or chips with care when using it.
