Porcelain Paving vs. Natural Stone Paving?

When choosing the type of garden paving slab that is right for you, there are a few things to consider. 

Porcelain Paving is a manufactured stone, designed and produced in a factory. The typical make-up of a porcelain tile is naturally-derived material such as Quartz and Clay. Once combined to make the Porcelain slab, it then undergoes a kiln-firing process where is it heated to 1400C. This ensures a strength that is much superior to natural paving such as Sandstone Paving or Limestone Paving. 

Porcelain Slabs are printed on individually, using a design that is usually inspired by natural stone paving or a modern, quirky pattern. This means there is pretty much an infinite number of colours and patterns any porcelain paving slab can have; making your garden completely unique. 

In contrast to the above, our Natural Stone Paving range is much less durable than Porcelain Paving. Where stone such as Sandstone Paving and Limestone Paving has been cut away from larger stones found in India, it will naturally be more brittle to work with. Once laid correctly, there will not be much difference in the strength when comparing the two types of Paving, however. 

Due to Sandstone and Limestone being derived naturally, there is also a limit on how many different colour varieties we are able to offer. While there are still many choices of our Natural Stone Paving, you'll notice that there are many more when it comes to Porcelain Paving. 

The porosity of each type of garden paving also differs. Sandstone and Limestone Paving have more porosity in comparison to Porcelain, again, due to their natural origins. This means that, to a certain degree, natural stone paving will retain moisture when it rains. This can, in some cases help to prevent flooding, but it also means the colour can change over time too. Porcelain Paving is completely non-porous, so any rain water will run straight off (so will need to be laid at an angle).
