If you are looking for a Porcelain alternative to the natural Rustic slate, make sure to check out our 'Natural' Rustic Slate Porcelain Paving. Our new 'Natural' range has been specifically designed to perfectly mimic the look and feel of Natural Sandstone, Limestone and Slate paving slabs; so this way you can have a more authentic-looking patio with the added modern benefits of Porcelain slabs. There are similarities between Slate and Sandstone, due to their natural origins; being quarried in India. This means they share similar attributes such as unique colours, a riven surface and long-lasting qualities. However, they differ in the sense that Slate Paving is a different type of natural stone from Sandstone and Limestone. Where Sandstone and Limestone are sedimentary stones that are formed in grains, they are slightly more brittle than Slate. Slate stones, however, are metamorphic stones that have been formed in layers, making them stronger and less porous. Slate will not fade in colour as much as Limestone paving will, especially if you opt for a darker colour. It is a highly durable material to use for indoor flooring and outdoor paving with heavy use and will last a very long time. Slate Paving must be laid by a professional and sealed by a professional. Due to the stone being formed in layers, the paving slabs may flake off in extreme weather. These slate paver stones are part of our Premium Sandstone Collection. This is because our Slate Paving has been manufactured to an incredibly high standard; being machine cut to achieve smooth, clean cuts of paving around the edges. This stone will have a riven surface on the top of the paving, which really enhances the colours, especially when wet. The surface is riven because of the 'splitting' process that is undergone to cut the slab from the stone. Slate Paving is a big investment, so you'll want to protect it and prolong the exquisite colour for as long as you can! To protect and enhance the rust colours, we recommend using Azpects Easy Seal Slate & Limestone. This will give your paving the ultimate protection against natural weathering and discolouration when laid in the sun. It also adds an element of stain protection. It's also best to jet wash or hose down your paving (if laid outside) every 6 months to keep it free of debris and leaves. Sample slabs are available in-store, please ask a customer advisor.
