14-20mm Onyx Chippings
Onyx Chippings make up our more premium range of decorative garden Chippings and is a highly sought-after garden stone within our large Decorative Stones range.
What makes these decorative Chippings 'premium' is the natural stone in which it is made up of: marble stone. Marble garden stones have a tendency to look that little bit more special in a garden due to their naturally-occurring sparkle and marbling throughout the stone.
This particular gravel chipping is a mesmerising gold colour with shade variations consisting of beige and apricot stones. Measuring approximately between 14-20mm, this angular chipping is perfect for landscaping applications such as paths, driveways and many other decorative stone features. This cannot be used in ponds, though, as it is not a fish-friendly stone.

How to Buy 20mm Onyx Chippings
20kg maxi bags
850kg Bulk Bags (weight is approx)
As mentioned above, these marble garden stones are classed as 'angular;' this is perfect for driveways as the stone shape means they easily 'lock in' together, to form a solid base for cars and foot traffic. The 14-20mm size is also what makes these garden chippings great for a drive, as they are large enough not to interfere with tyres, but small enough to easily walk or drive over. Likewise, paths benefits from Onyx Chippings for the same reasons as stated above. If you have a detached house with a pathway that wraps around your house, these gold garden stones will make a beautiful and bright addition to your home, whether a traditional red brick or modern home. As well as practical uses, Onyx Chippings are idylic for creating an eye-catching feature in any part of your homes exterior. A front garden, for example, would enjoy Onyx Chippings for a feature that looks great all-year round and includes very little maintenance. If you want to prevent weeds from coming through your feature, you can purchase Weed Membranes that will allow water penetration but very little weeds to come through. Garden borders could also be made out of these garden chippings. Many customers choose to border their large landscaping features with decorative stones to either match their garden, or create a contrast. As well as looking great when paired with features such as Paving patios and garden Decking, it is also a practical way of aiding garden drainage. Installing garden stones in your garden is a task you want to get right, so you can enjoy the benefits without worrying about too much maintenance. To ensure you purchase the right amount of garden chippings, you can use our online quantity calculator, which will tell you how many 20kg maxi bags or 850kg bulk bags you'll need to cover your area. You can select the depth you'd like to lay your stones at, but we would recommend 50mm. It's far more cost-effective to purchase bulk bags, especially for larger jobs. This step is especially important if you're using Onyx Chippings on a drive or pathway, as it will give you a sturdier surface. Use a building aggregate such as MOT Type 1 Limestone that has larger pieces and smaller pieces within it. It's best to lay this at a depth of 50mm too, so be prepared to do lots of digging when installing a path or driveway. This one is a good idea whether you're installing a pathway, driveway or garden feature or border - as no one likes seeing weeds ruin their landscape feature! We have a variety of Weed Fabrics to choose from, ranging in thickness and size. Lay this before you add your sub-base for best results. Before you lay your garden stones, you could always wash them by hosing them off in small loads within a wheelbarrow. This will mean you'll start seeing the lovely colour sooner, as some of our stones can arrive quite dusty. Use your Wheelbarrow to scatter the stones evenly across your sub-base at a depth of 50mm. Keep any leftover stones so you can top your feature up as and when you need to. PLEASE NOTE: Due to our Decorative Stones being a naturally-sourced product, there will always be some variation from batch to batch, especially in terms of colour. On occasion, your garden stones may be very dusty; we recommend hosing your new stones down to wash them and reveal their true colour. Read More...
